Honeymoon ideas?

I’m trying to plan a honeymoon with my new fiancée, but we’re having some difficulty.

We want to be able to attend Mass daily and would really like something relatively stress-free (read: all-inclusive) as well. That pretty much cuts cruises out entirely, and it’s not easy to find the proximity of Catholic Churches to most resorts.

If anyone’s has any suggestions, I’d greatly appreciate them.

If you have that amount of money to spend (to go to an all inclusive resort) then consider going to England! Travel the country, and make different Churches your destinations, getting there is fun part and seeing the sights along the way. My husband and I did this for our first anniversary because we didn’t really have a true honeymoon. We stayed in lovely little B&Bs along the way, and just relaxed and took our time. It’s not totally stress-free to travel like this, but it was a wonderful and beautiful trip, and I saw some of the most beautiful Churches in the world in the process.

Just make sure you go for two weeks to make it worth your while to travel that far.

Not exactly sitting on the beach, but making Mass the focus of your travels really does open up a whole new world of adventure just trying to get there! 😃

If you don’t want to go to the extent of traveling that far, you could do the same thing here in the States. Just plan your route across country, as far as you want to go, and map out interesting Churches along the way. Rent an RV and just hit the road and see the country, just the two of you - how romantic!!

Have you guys ever been to Rome? Could you check online or with a travel agent for all inclusive offers or tours to Rome? You can check and see if they are still doing the “sposi novelli” section in papal audiences where you can go wearing your wedding clothes, that would be awesome. If nothing else, daily Mass at the major Basilicas of our Church (or so many of the other beautiful Basilicas and churches in Rome) would he awesome.

If your budget is a little tighter, look around for all inclusive resorts in Catholic countries/areas that might have nice churches close by. I second the suggestion of masstimes.org (and you can email them or call them to double check schedules, I have used them many times for Mass all over, here in the states and out of the states).
 
We went to Nassau, stayed at the Radisson next to Sandals with an all-inclusive package and went to Mass every day in town. I hope this helps!

Or, you could visit the DC area and take in the great places they have there. You can fly into BWI or DCA, metro to either the MD or VA sides, and stay for much less than you would in DC proper. If you go to the Archdiocese of DC’s website (or masstimes.org), you can have a Mass within walking distance of your destination every day.

Do more research on cruises. Most do have Mass available every day. When my family took a cruise to Alaska on Holland America, we attended Mass every day. There was a priest on the cruise. That is fairly common.
 
How about Paris France? There are so many churches there it is easy to find masses. There is lots to see and do from the museums to the parks, the evening river boat ride, Eiffel Tower. Rue de Bac Chapel, with the Miraculous medal and the incorrupt body of St. Catherine LaBoure,and tomb of St Louise de Marillac, St. Vincent de Paul’s incorrupt body in his church, Sacre Coure Basilica, of course Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral, and many more. Nothing more romantic than Paris in the evening.

But aren’t some of them “rent a priests” who in some cases are laicised? Or am I just reading too many internet forums. :o

I’ve just heard bad things about priests on cruises that they are not often what they appear to be.

Also, you can find out if there is Mass close by at the ports you stop at. Our first Mass as a married couple (other than our nuptial Mass) was at a port where we stopped on our honeymoon. I think I used masstimes.org, but I can’t remember anymore if that is how we found out the time/location.

To add to 1ke’s post, I was on a cruise last summer to New England and Canada. The purser’s desk had information on all the churches in the city that were going to be in on Sunday, and she circled the churches in which I would have time to attend mass. So even if there’s not a priest to say mass on board the ship, you should be able to attend mass in the city that you’re in for that Sunday (or possible Saturday)
 
My husband and I went on vacation on the Norwegian Dawn Cruise. There was daily Mass in the chapel and a vigil Mass Saturday night.

It was wonderful.
 
Do you like to go camping? There is a campground in Colorado Springs that has a Catholic church not too far away. And behind the campground they have “horse tours” through the garden of the gods. If you like to ride. You’d see a lot more than if you went through by car. Also, on a day trip from there, the town of San Luis has a stations of the cross shrine that’s awesome.

By far, one of the most amazing places I’ve been to in my entire life… (swimming with dolphins is pretty cool!)
And I would legitimately place the dinner I had there in the top 10 meals of my life! Even if you don’t do this for your honeymoon, I highly recommend adding it to your bucket list…👍

Not nearly as common as we’d like, unfortunately, and sometimes the priests are of the “rent a priest” variety. Only once have we been fortunate enough to have a priest on a cruise.
 
I prefer the wild outback myself (Amazon Rainforest!), but that’s just me.

I think the idea of going to Europe is great. Try Spain, I watched an episode of “Mother Angelica Live Classics” where she talked about visiting Spain and apparently they’re pretty hardcore about holding their Masses. It’s nice and sunny to.
 
I second all these wonderful suggestions! We have enjoyed Rome (very easy to find churches, obviously, and there is plenty to keep you occupied for weeks.) If you choose it, try to make reservations for the Scavi tour under St. Peter’s. This is the one most outstanding thing we have done in all our years of traveling. England is, indeed, lovely, and we have been to many Catholic churches there. It’s fun to just rent a little cottage and park yourself in one area, from which you can do side trips. There are plenty of rentals available at amazingly good weekly prices - just google “self catering” or “vacation rentals.”

Paris is lovely, as well; again, consider renting a little apartment and enjoying the wonderful little food shops and restaurants; again, plenty of churches. (We loved visiting the church at 140 Rue de Bac, where St. Catherine Laboure’s incorrupt body is displayed in a glass case.)

Both of our daughters honeymooned, in the last few years, on Kauai, which was heavenly. They easily found Catholic churches.
