Hi!Fathers and mothers should not be the only ones honored.
There are grandmothers. There are grandfathers.
There are aunts. There are uncles.
…granted; it’s the old “respect your elders,” thing… as a Believer, a person should, in good conscience, be respectful of others, specially if they are blood relations…
Yet, I think that the Commandment is set to provide for the parents during their golden years and when physical/mental disability sets in… the bond of the parents towards the child/children is built-in (real parents, not just progenitors) while the children do not always listen to their conscience as they are longing for what the world offers (respect and love are usually low in the development of the psyche).
This Commandment is of so much importance to God that he included terms and grants that none of the other Commandments offer… God, in my estimation, is seeking the unity of the family and offers the children special incentives to keep them from straying from the familial bond.
