Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Today begins the Month of St. Joseph. If you have never read the Apostolic Exhortation by Pope St.JPII “Redemptoris Custos” – “ON THE PERSON AND MISSION OF SAINT JOSEPH IN THE LIFE OF CHRIST AND OF THE CHURCH” you may want to read it during this month when the Church honors St. Joseph in a special way as husband of Mary and the protector of the Christ Child. How appropriately the Church has named St. Joseph Patron of the Universal Church, as he guarded so well the Body of Christ within the Womb of Mary, who is both mother and Model of the Church!

It is not a long document and can be read HERE

Thanks for reminding me. I love St Joseph and will make an effort to follow his example this month. And I’ll read that letter.

Thank you for the reminder about St Joseph. I pray to him daily, but will find a special novena or prayer to him that I can do this month for “his” month.

Thank you @MariaChristi I didn’t know about this. I’ll be sure to read the document.

Dear Saxum,

Yes, me too! I’ve read the letter of St. John Paul II more than once, and continue to grow in my love and appreciation for St. Joseph. I pray to him each morning for my husband, all the men especially among our family and friends, and for the boys I have taught over many years.

Dear Tis_Bearself,

Not sure how I came upon this particular prayer to St. Joseph; but I like it and pray it each morning after my Morning Offering and Magnificat:
St. Joseph – Man of Unshakable Hope

Powerful St. Joseph, in the course of your life you shone forth as a man of hope. In the midst of trials and difficulties, such as the distressing circumstances of Jesus’ birth, the flight into Egypt, and exile in a foreign land, your only strength sprang from your unshakable hope in the goodness, the power and the fidelity of God.

Trustingly, I look to you today. Because you are so close to God, you are in a position to join your prayers with mine in the trials that confront me at this time. Help me to overcome my sorrows by giving me the same strength that allowed you to carry on in the midst of difficulties. May the guiding light of hope lead me through my trials to the comforting presence of the Father. Amen.
Thanks for your love for this dear and often forgotten Patron of the universal Church. My favorite title for him is simply “Husband of Mary”. 🙂
