Honoring thy mother and father--how to if they have passed away?

I can relate to not having my parents for long, as my mother died when I was 10 and I don’t know who my father is… I don’t even know if he’s alive or dead. Now that I am becoming Catholic though, I pray for his soul and for his happiness, wherever he is. I also pray for my mother’s soul at every mass. And this year I am honoring my mother in a special way. She was born on a marian feast, and I am consecrating myself to Jesus through Mary on my mother’s birthday.
 
I guess I am kind of lucky because my Parents as well as my favorite Uncles and Aunts are all buried within a few yards of each other in a nearby Cemetery that takes very good care of their graves. I sometimes go over for a visit during my lunch time and say a quick prayer (makes me feel a bit closer when I need it).

I think you’re doing your best considering the distance you live from the graveyard, so just try to visit and clean it up when time allows. Everyone understands, but I know it probably bothers you as it would me.

I firmly believe in offering Masses and prayers as much as you can. Living a decent Christian life says alot too. Honor your Spouse as your Parents loved and honored each other. My Father was always big on honesty and integrity. So this is something that I try to live to honor him. Mom was very generous with her time, loyalty, and wealth to friends and family. So again, I try to continue the best I can in my own life.

These are all things that would make them proud and they probably (if God allows) get to see us in our lives.
