I was just curious to know if it was a sin to go to Hookah Bars. One of my friends told me about one that she went to and it sounded like a really cool place to hang out. She invited me to go to one but then I didn’t know if it was a sin to go to those kind of places or not so I told her maybe. Is it a sin to go to a Hookah Bar or smoke at a Hookah Bar?

Hookah is just flavored tobacco or fruit paste (normally tobacco) so I would not say it is a sin, especially because it is really only done for recreational purposes. Though like everything, it must be used in moderation.

Good question. I used to like smoking out of them, both tabacco and marijuana. I don’t know if smoking tabacoo (if you’re not addicted) is a sin but I would say marijuana is (and I used to love the stuff).

Whether its a sin is a tough question. What kind of conversation will there be? I love to go out and have a few beers but its tough because a lot of times its not exactly the most pure-minded environment.

Here’s why I wouldn’t go: most of the time its marijuana rather than tabacoo, at least in my experience. Secondly, even if it is tabacoo, being able to say no to something like that is powerful self discipline that has helped me immensely with pornography.

Lastly, Matthew Kelly puts it like this: Is this activity going to help me become the best version of myself? Ask yourself that question and you’ll have your answer.

Wow, this is a good one!!! Are you going to the Hookah Bar with bad intentions, trying to hurt yourself or someone else? Are you going to do anything that is inappropriate? Well guess what? Simply going someplace or trying something new is not a sin, and as for smoking, I have been a smoker for over 30 years and I have never felt, been told by a priest, read in any realistic (non fundamentalist) religious book that smoking was a sin. We all do realize that smoking can/might/may cause cancer or that you might set yourself or someone else on fire, but smoking, like drinking done in a responsible manner is no more threatening than flying on an aircraft with a crotch bomber so go figure… Be careful of your condemnation through sin that does not exist, you may harm someone else or at least make a lot of people uncomfortable. 👍

It’s fine to go to a hookah bar. Chat with your friends, smoke a little, and take the edge off.

There is no sin in going to a Hookah bar and smoking tobacco. I hate how this culture demonizes everything smoke or tobacco related, but then glorifies masturbation and casual sex. The church has nothing against the usage of tobacco if it is not done in excess.

Smoking is only a sin if done in excess. Unfortunately there is no official definition of excess.

CCC 2290 The virtue of temperance disposes us to avoid every kind of excess: the abuse of food, alcohol, tobacco, or medicine. Those incur grave guilt who, by drunkenness or a love of speed, endanger their own and others’ safety on the road, at sea, or in the air.

I saw plenty of hookah (shisha in Egyptian Arabic) bars in Egypt and Syria; even the outdoor restaurants in the big-name hotels in Cairo had them. It was all tobacco or flavored tobacco there. Not a sin, that I can tell, in moderation.

🙂 Thank you guys for the (name removed by moderator)ut! I really appreciate it. 😃

At the last function I attended at our local Marionite Church, they had hookah pipes for rent, and most tables had one! The smoke was sickly sweet to me, but we were outside and the older gentlemen really seemed to enjoy smoking and chatting with each other. I guess you have to aquire the taste.

I’ve been smoking for almost 25 years and wish I’d never started. It’s the hardest thing ever to quit and it’s way too expensive. If you want to socialise,I’d just go to a coffe shop or there are many other places to go and “hang out”…Putting burning plants in my mouth and inhaling the polluted poisonous fumes is the stupidiest thing I ever started. It is incredablly hard to quit. Don’t start! I absolutely hate it but I absolutely can’t stop it. I wish I could start an exercise program but I know I can’t run anymore, without losing my breath. I would have been better off taking up the bad habit of chasing parked cars…It would have been just as stupid but much easier to quit. There are so many more things to enjoy in life than breathing in smoke. Most animals run at the smell of smoke, yet we concentrate it into a cigarette and breath direct hits and fill our lungs with poison, because we are so “intelligent”. We’re so smart, we’re stupid. I honestly think that the only way for me to quit would be to lock me up somewhere where I can’t smoke for at least a month or get out to buy or borrow any…Please find someplace else to hang out …something where ya don’t take the chance on getting addicted to something which can make you lose your breath when ya work. It’s the dumbest thing ever.

First I want to say that I really feel bad for your situation, however, don’t give up. The problem with most smokers is that they are addicted to way more than nicotine. As a matter of fact that “burning plant” you’re inhaling only makes up about half of what you are smoking. The rest is essentially junk that takes way too long to explain. While nicotine is addictive it is only part of what you addicted to. There are other components that are addictive and enhance the nicotine too.

I strongly suggest you switch to brand that doesn’t contain all that junk. The only brand I know of that is mostly pure tobacco is American Spirits. Am I saying this is going to solve your health problems? No! What I am saying is that by smoking pure tobacco you can allow your body to ease off the other junk and then you should try quitting smoking all together. If this advice sounds like a load of bull dung, so be it, but what do you got to lose? I’m not a medical expert, but I do know have a lot of knowledge when it comes to tobacco and tobacco related products. All I’m asking is that you give it a shot and see what happens. Lastly the most important thing to do is pray and ask for God’s help. It’s probably not flash to you, but He can help you overcome the greatest obstacles. You will be in my prayers. 🙂
