Hooray! I went to Confession today! & when a Priests Cellphone rings!

I went to Confession today because I am a sinner and am repentant but also because I want to receive Our Lord at Easter Sunday mass. In the past whenever I have wanted to receive Our Lord on Easter Sunday I would either fall into a deep depression or commit a sin that would not allow for me to do so. I am praying that I can stay in God’s good graces until this Easter Sunday (would appreciate your prayer’s for me as well!).

When I went to Confession today the priests cellphone started ringing and at first I thought it was my phone and was wishing that a hole would appear that I could jump into out of shame but then the priest said “Oh, I forgot to shut my cellphone off”. It threw my concentration off of the list of my sins I was reading from and hopefully I didn’t forget to mention any of them.

Has this ever happened to any of you?

Anyways, I feel refreshed spiritually and in addition to Confession bought Father Dubay’s book “Deep Conversion, Deep Prayer” to help me with contemplative prayer.

That’s about it. I just wanted to announce my having Confessed because I feel so great spiritually and would like to wish all of you a Happy coming Easter Sunday!!! You are all in my prayers and God bless you!

Kinda funny about the cell phone, although it’s too bad that it wrecked your concentration. Nice to know those crazy things happen to priests, too.

That can be an honest mistake…at least he didn’t tell you to kind of speed it up and in so many words cut to the real sins…that was at the beginning of my confession…
yeah, I know…

But to be positive, we only can pray for our dear priests…all of them the good, bad, and everything in between…without those precious hands…we would have no Eucharist.

Yes, it is a great sacrament indeed!

After the realization that it wasn’t my cellphone ringing (to my relief) I felt bad for the priest because he had this look on his face that said “oh oh I am in trouble…I am always the one to remind others to shut their cellphones off before mass and look at me now” LOL

So glad you got to make your confession before Easter Sunday .

Yes, in fact it happened to me for the first time the other day when I went to confession. I was already finished with confessing, and he was in the middle of talking about the penance when it rang, sigh. He looked at it, but did not answer it and turned it off. He continued with talking to me and that was it.

I think priests have emergency calls they are on call for so we must be patient with them, and love them for all that they do. The priest’s that night started at 6:30 and did not finish hearing confessions until 10:30, poor things.

Father was disappointed. He thought maybe we had come up with a new way to speed confessions.

Yes, I do believe it was an honest mistake and was not mad with the priest at all.

I have never had a priest tell me to speed it up as was your case I think if this were to happen to me I would get alittle miffed and would probably need to Confess that as well. lol

Well, the line at our church was nearly out the door on Wednesday, so Father came out before the regular confession times and asked us all to just list our sins and say our Act of Contrition while in line so that everyone could get through the line. If we had lines that long all the time, the world would be a better place.

I had something a litttle similar happen in that when I was confessing one time, one of the parishioners failed to notice the color of the light on the top of the door to the Confessional and as I was about to drop a big sin on Father one of the parishioners opened the door on us! lol

Father said to the parishioner in a firm voice to close the door and asked me to continue.

I don’t know why certain people are in such a rush when they come to church that they can’t even be at peace for even one second to notice if the confessional is being used or not.

If we had lines that long all the time, the world would be a better place.

That happened to me when I went on retreat March the 9th (a Sunday). I tried to go to Confession but the line was so long for those wanting to Confess before Easter Sunday that even after an hour I wasn’t even halfway close to the Confessional…

But you are right, if the Confessional lines were that long all of the time the world would indeed be a better place.
