The ends never justify the means. Is it like reading Playboy for the articles?
Ever been to Hooters? On what do you base your evaluation?

I have no idea, seems harmless…I guess.

The new Hooters restaurant may have gotten an unwelcome reception from some of the community’s religious leaders, but tonight it will get a little help from above.

As part of a private opening party, Monsignor Isidore Rozycki, the head Catholic priest for the Greater Waco area, plans to bless the chain’s newest location at New Road and Interstate 35. The public won’t be able to attend the event. But they can bask in the divine dedication starting Tuesday morning, when the restaurant officially opens.

“Blessings are part of the Catholic tradition,” said Rozycki, who is pastor of St. Martin’s Church in Tours. “You bless the building so it will be a safe haven, so that the families that enter will be blessed, so the employees will be blessed É as they support their families.”
I’d be willing to bet that this priest doesn’t have a CLUE what goes on at Hooters. He probably has been told its a family restaraunt. Maybe some parishioners in the Waco area could clue him in.?..

The priest is giving the impression that he’s blessing the business. Hooter’s demeans women and makes them sex objects. Just because they’re not topless or naked doesn’t make it okay. The intent is still there.

No one makes the women work there, but no one makes women work in strip clubs either. That has nothing to do with it.

Hooters just fills the bill for many because they can kind of wink about it and say they really like the food. Kind of like “I read the articles” excuse. It’s a place you can go and freely stare and ogle women in clothing that doesn’t leave a lot to the imagination.

Yes Jesus went and dwelt among the sinners…and blessed them…but He said…“go and sin no more!” That the key. He didn’t bless them and say keep on doing what you’re doing!!
Wonderful response 🙂 Would our wonderful BVM take a job at Hooters? No? Well then…

I too have been to Hooters. Outside the Fleet Center in Boston on one of the side streets. Good food, good price, and good service as others have said. Whenever I go to a Sox game or a Bruins game I make sure to go there when I need a good, reasonably prices meal.

I have seen women dressed more suggestively on public beaches during the summer time.

What goes on at Hooters?

Has anyone noticed the poeple who have been to Hooters say it is a normal place with good food, while the people who have never been there condemn it? Didn’t someone once say something about religion being the incubator of ignorance?

I seem to remember Jesus visiting a place where immoral acts were occurring. I believe a “whip of cords” was involved; I don’t remember blessings being dispensed 😃

The correct analog here is not to Jesus eating with tax collectors; it would be if he had visited a whorehouse and blessed it.
Then perhaps you have little understanding of Jesus speaking to the woman at the well.

Even if she had not been an adulteress, He would have been giving scandal, as men simply did not speak to women in public unless they were an immediate relative.

Further, she had a public reputation. So maybe it wasn’t a whore house, just a whore well. But he publicly engaged in a long conversation with a woman of well defined ill repute.

The same complaint made against Hooters within this thread could be made about almost any bar or pub around Happy Hour time; in fact, one is more likely to find more immodest dress on the patrons in any numberof these businesses than the watresses wear at Hooters.

If one has a particualr problem with lust, one might want to avoid going out in public almost anywhere during the summer, and most business establishments catering to food and/or dring, any time of the year.

It is also interesting to see the posts which seem to presume that they either know why the priest gave a blessing, or presume that the priest was wrong.

Further, there seems to be a presumption that any male looking at a female who has large breasts and who has not gone out of her way to hide that fact, is automatically going to lust after her. That is not necessarily so; many men can and do appreciate the female form without lusting. Others seem to be stuck in permanent teen age fantasy land.

Hooters caters to the lowest denominator in society–the white trash and proud of it clan. If you think that having low standards is okay, then by all means, go to Hooters and enjoy the hot wings. I am sure it is a fine burger joint. But the fact is it is a restaurant established in bad taste. In my days before I was a Jesus freak, I still didn’t like Hooters because I thought it was trashy. I still don’t like it for the very same reason. I have seenlittle girls wearing hooters t-shirts. I didn’t ask, but maybe the family had gone there for dinner. I won’t be taking my girls to dinner there.

Here’s a novel criticism. It caters to the wrong socio-economic class.

As I recall, Jesus spent a lot of time with what might be called white trash.

There are people who have lots of money and are trashy. I wouldn’t hang out with eminem or Hugh Heffner either.

Actually, I think I’d prefer the trash to the poseurs.

Amen brother!

From Fr Rozycki’s own words he blessed the restaurant because it is a place where people work and congregate. It seems very appropriate to pray that people may do that safely.

I don’t particularly like Hooters because
(a) The beer selection is terrible :crying:
(b) The food is marginal
(c) It’s a chain, and I prefer to patronize local businesses (as a small businessman I’m funny that way)

That being said I have been to one maybe 3-5 times in 20 years. Always at someone else’s suggestion.
Are the women attractive? Sure…it would be bearing false witness to say that they are not. Does that mean every patron is “lusting” in his heart or on the verge of sin? Of course not.

I’m a grown man…I’ve seen women in shorts before. I don’t get phased that easily. I could stand on the street outside Hooters and probably see more scantily clad persons. I’d like to think that most of us are made of sterner stuff than that. If a person has a problem with it than they should avoid the place.
Meanwhile, at the very least the good father was doing his duty in amongst the tax collectors

The odd thing is of course the regional differences I noticed. I may be wrong but it appears to me that in the South and Midwest it is considered a family restaurant while in the northeast it is more of a guys going out for a burger and a beer kinda joint.

very strange

Didn’t Jesus say in that you are not even supposed to look at another person with lust in your eye because that is the same as adultery? Adultery violates the 10 Commandments.

there is nothing at all wrong or immoral about hooters. .
Doesn’t hooters refer to the female breasts and specifically large ones jiggling around to incite lustful intentions among the male customers? At least that is the impression I get from the ads. If that is what it is, I thought that the willful giving in to incitement to lust would be a mortal sin and could send someone to hell? Isn’t it wrong to bless a restaurant which has this as their purpose?

This is what I thought, but maybe it has been thrown out the window after Vatican II and the novels of Father Greeley?

Hooters is akin to a whorehouse now. I wish I’d known that before I ate those chicken wings.
