Just as the heading reads. Is hope faith and love a gift from God or a creation of our mind because we’re horrified by the pointlessness of the universe?

I can tell you my thought: Life appears to have started by some the mixture of basic elements. A recipe, if you will. Of all of science’s unbelievable accomplishments, they can create the mixture, but they have never come close to creating life. (Cloning is not creation.)

This by most scientific accounts could have been done 100 years ago. But it hasn’t happened.

Something unknown has to happen to create life, and science hasn’t come close to finding out what it is. So these ideas that every element of the physical universe, and of consciousness can be reduced to an equation is far from proven.

The research I have read as I understand it has actually strengthened my hope that there is something else we can not reduce to an equation. So there is hope. Or fear.

You know, sometimes I feel like that too. I’ve pretty much come to the same conclusion, but I’m in a very tenuous position faith-wise right now. Have there been studies about these “feelings”, I wonder? As in, (talking voiceover on TV with new-age pictures floating by) “Scientists have discovered that the human brain, through evolution, has created the feelings of hope, faith, and love to further the species and protect it from self-destruction” blah, blah, blah… Or something similar.

Hi RKO,
From where I stand, all three (hope, faith and love) are essential reasons to believe.
Even if a man were to realize that belief is where he will find salvation, though he had led a dissolute life and was not prepared to openly admit his belief due to the grip of the ego, even then the door is still open for that man.
Very good post.
God Bless,
Colmcille1.🙂
