Last night my dh and I attended Mass with his 4th Degree Knights of Columbus assembly. As I was receiving communion I noticed a host on the floor that others were passing by (and almost stepping on). I wasn’t sure if it was a consecrated one or one that had fallen there before the consecration. After I’d received from the priest, I picked up the fallen host and put it in my mouth. Did I do the right thing?

I do the same thing.

I do not see anything wrong with that. You had a very reverent intention and you were not trained on how to deal with the situation. You should notify the priest about that because it is really strange that a Host would be left lying on the floor for a while without anyone doing anything about it. The priest will make sure that people will pay more attention next time.

Thank you both. We don’t see this particular priest but about 4-5 times a year. But, I’ll try to remember to mention what happened to him the next time I see him. 🙂

Della, not knowing for sure, my instinct says you did the right thing.🙂
