don’t know if it’s just local or not…are there any places in the US where it is traditional…I’ve never really heard anyone here mention them neither…I guess they’re just not an America wide traditional thing for Easter…they are delicious…smothered with butter.
I don’t know where to buy them. Anyone around here that knows about them seems to make them themselves. They confuse and ignite my scruples on some level because it seems like cake.

I think because so many parts of the US are less Liturgical varieties of Christian without lent or fasting, hot cross buns are not a widespread custom. I first heard of them when our music teacher taught us to play a song about them on plastic recorders.

Mmmm hot cross bunz :+1:t3: Perfect breakfast after Tenebræ.

These have raisins and blueberries 😎
Those are like ours 😊
Growing up we usually had them on Sunday though as they were just too nice.I’ll be buying some tomorrow.

I remember reading a recipe for these decades ago on the back of a packet of yeast. Always wanted to make, but never got around to it – maybe today. (I was planning on making bran muffins, but that may have to wait now.)

In my experience, bakery-made ones are much more common in areas of the US that have large Polish or other Eastern European populations. After all the comments here, it inspired me to look for a recipe. Here’s one from King Arthur’s Flour:

I also HIGHLY recommend finding a recipe for Massa Sovada (Portuguese Sweet Bread) which I’ve made for my family for years at Easter, as it also has a cross slashed into the top before baking.

I saw them in our local market today - they looked yummy. The were made by a local bakery.

Mum used to sing this to us when where kids

Hot cross buns, hot cross buns!
One ha’penny, two ha’penny, hot cross buns!
If you have no daughters, give them to your sons,
One ha’penny, two ha’penny, hot cross buns!

What do you get if you pour hot water down a rabbit hole…? A hot cross bun-ny…🐰

Ours always come 6 to a pack. Huge and so good!

No, didn’t buy any this year.

My supermarket always has hot cross buns around Easter time (I did buy them this year). There are many Catholics here, and this area has a lot of French and French-Canadian ancestry.
