hello, i’ve asked this already so please dont block it as i need an answer fast and its very important, i’m recently moved to a new place where my housemates are committing serious sins of fornication and drinking excessively etc, do you think i should stay? is there any hope of me helping them? i try talking to them about God and reasons why this type of living isnt right ( from both religious and secular thinking), which they sometimes listen to but yet continue, or should i go? i am a devout Catholic and i would never commit sins like these even minor variations, i pray for them and the only real reason keeping me there is hope that they will somewhat become better and fear of them being left to their own devices, answer this quickly (preferably a Priest) thank you for your replies

A wise person once said, if you hang around the barbershop long enough - sooner or later you will end up with a haircut.

People are known by the company they keep. If you are able to, I would suggest finding house mates with whom you are more compatable. Find people who share your values, or at least who have house rules that you agree with.

lie down with the dog and get up with the fleas, as they say down here.

They won’t change, infact you’re probably getting ‘on their nerves’ with you ‘sanctimonious preaching’ (I imagine that’s what they think…), so get out while you can! The others are right!

1.) Start saving your money- in a bank, not in this house. You might wake up without it.
2.) Start finding another place to live. This time, ask loads of questions, and double-check and verify what you are told.
3.) Get a storage place and move your stuff out to the storage place, excepting for what you immediately need.
4.) If you cannot find a place to move right away, you have three choices:
a.) Temporarily move back in with family.
b.) Temporarily move in with friends.
c.) Stay out of this house as much as possible, going there only to sleep, change clothes, etc. if this is hte case, get a lock on your bedroom door. In their depravity, they might hurt you.

5.) Priests don’t frequent the Family threads as much. I don’t think it takes a priest to tell you what you already seem to know. However, I would recommend that you seek out the counsel of a priest ASAP, by calling your local parish or Newman Center and setting up an appointment.

And get back your share of the deposits!

I’m a male. I used to have roommates. I don’t any more mostly because I don’t want to deal with the issue of others bringing over women to fornicate with.

Another piece of advice is to do “due diligence” regarding your potential roommates prior to moving in with them or vice versa.

Get out. Go. Preaching to them will just ensure they think of Christians as preachy irritants.

You don’t say if they are engaging in this behavior right there in front of you but if they are - this is not a good situation even for people who agree with it. I’d say get out now.
