Yay or nay from the perspective of our Faith.

I watched until episode 20 something and the insult to Jesus in the Church.

Yay or Nay what? Is this a mystery? Be more specific, please. Peace.

Are you watching the current American series, or the old British series? Edited to add, I assume based on the reviews of the recent episode you mean the new American series.

The old British series was much better IMHO, and it annoyed me that so few people I knew were even familiar with the fact that there was an old series and this wasn’t a brand new idea. And frankly, since we have a reality show happening all day every day in the White House now, any fictional TV series is going to pale next to it.

These TV shows will do anything to get attention. I didn’t watch that hot mess of a show but the episode has been reviewed everywhere because people were shocked by it. I was actually somewhat heartened by how many viewers, most of whom are probably your garden variety agnostic to lukewarm younger people, actually still felt shocked by seeing Frank abusing a Jesus statue. I wouldn’t watch it because in its Americanized version it’s not worth my time even without the blasphemous stuff. It would be really cool if a giant statue of Jesus could just conveniently fall on the bad guy and end the series though.

She means, should we be watching the tv show House of Cards since the most recent episode she watched has the evil protagonist, ,who I believe has become President of the USA after committing murder and all sort of other garbage, spitting on a statue of Our Lord.

Nay for me. I watched seven episodes before I gave up on it. It was brilliantly executed and Spacey was amazing, but it was just far too morally nasty for me. The scene where his wife visits the dying guard in the hospital was basically the end for me, though I gave it a few more episodes to see, knowing I was probably done. It got worse (morally), so I moved on to other shows.

It sounds like I quit just in time, since I had not heard about this statute episode. I also had never heard that it was a remake of a British show!

I am watching the American Netflix series. Kevin Spacey has been a fav actor of mine. Especially after he played that was he an alien or not guy.

He is acting as the POTUS now in the series and that scene in the church is the one thats making me think twice. Its heartening my reaction is echoed .

I am hoping someone might chip in and say jr converted later in the series

The British original was great in part because the nastiness and underhandedness was very campy. I remember a plotline involving Prince Charles and Princess Diana and they had lookalike actors playing them.

From the little I have seen of the American remake, the camp aspect is gone and it’s just your typical heavy-handed dark political drama. Ho hum.

I might try and hunt down the brit series. It probably doesnt have that scene

The American series did have ***** Riot on. In angst against Russia.

I don’t think the show is in any way condoning blasphemy. The character in question is clearly intended to be evil.

I’m generally an open-minded fan of all kinds of musics, but I have about as much tolerance for ***** Riot’s antics in the Russian cathedral as I did for the black metal people in Norway who went around burning historic churches for a while.

Kindly leave the church sacred spaces and buildings out of whatever protests you want to make against the establishment.

Maybe the writers are just anti religious.

Twf have you watched the entire series

Possible spoiler alert

the character is indeed portrayed as being almost entirely without moral scruples. I see the scene as being similar to another where he horribly disrespects his own father’s grave in, if anything, even worse fashion.

The spirit is one of being anti-authority (except his own) rather than anti religion per se. I don’t think it endorses the behaviour.

Right, this was the way I understood it.

I quit watching it because I found it hopelessly depressing, but I don’t think it’s necessarily morally wrong to watch. Just don’t root for Frank!

Yes. We also see Frank commit murder and violate the grave of his father… I don’t think the writers are promoting those acts either. Frank is an evil character.

Does he convert?

I am watching a movie on St Theresa and in it, a condemned crim does the same thing. Then converts when they are about to chop his head off
