Although there are a few places in Scripture where it means the physical structure that David called home, the house of David usually means all of the descendants of David, which would include Jesus Christ. St. Joseph was said to be “of the house of David.” (Luke 1:27; 2:4)
In a spiritual sense, it could mean all of the spiritual descendants of David, that is, all who love God wholeheartedly, as David did in his early years, which would include the Church.
