Anyone watch last night’s episode of “House” on Fox about the “stigmatist” nun. I was beginning to enjoy that show and now they insult Catholics. What do you think?

I think I need to start watching more TV so I can help deal with these things. I’ll plan to watch in the future.

As far as insulting Catholics, I’m starting to find a lot of that is actually just a disguise for those who are intrigued by or fear the Truth of Catholicism. Therefore it is, in its own twisted way, a blessing to the Church to have these activities about.

That’s from first season, not this season.

And I saw a few insulting things, but what can you expect? In one episode, a twelve-year-old happened to be pregnant, and she had an abortion near the end. She didn’t want her parents to know, but later, she broke down and told them.

Chase is Catholic (used to be?) and he stayed with the nun, talking about the Bible with her. So, it wasn’t all that bad.

And it didn’t go as far as Family Guy does, or South Park for that matter. I watch the show and I think it’s fun.

It could, unfortunatly, be worse.

I recorded the show, haven’t seen it yet. I’ll watch it tonight.

I’m with Alan on this one. Drew Mariani gets so angry over the insults Catholics are getting on TV these days, but to me it’s a sign that the war is on, so to speak. Satan is rallying his troops, so it seems, and I’m more than happy to take them on…got my Rosary, my adoration, my votes, and Fr. Corapi in my head saying, “Our Mama wears army boots”. 😛

Interesting how it is the Evangelical Fundamentalists which brought this battle to a head. They’re vocalness and election activities brought the secularists out in droves. Why the battle ended up focused on us Catholics is beyond me, but what I see coming out of it is the opportunity for all of us to debunk the myths secularists and fundamentalists have about Catholicism. Around the water cooler, people talk about the show and that provides an opening for us to set things straight. That can’t be all bad…if not for the show the opportunity to discuss Catholicism probably would have been non-existent.

What I find fascinating is the timing of all this…JPII gave us the Catechism…CA, EWTN, AveMariaRadio, Relevant radio responded to his call for the new evangelization…and they’ve been around long enough to reach you and me, to offer us knowledge, resources, encouragement, faith and prayers…and now, it seems the battle is on. I’m very intrigued to see how this all plays out. If the pendulum is swinging, it eventually needs to come back our way. It’ll take time, but I’m a patient person.

Well Said!!

I did not watch last night because it was a rerun. My memory of the details is a bit foggy. As I recall, there was nothing overly anti-Catholic about it (aside from the ubiquitous quips from Dr. House). Some of the skepticism shown by the characters would be typical for that situation, I would think. In the end, I thought the experience led House toward some (religious) introspection.

Is my memory failing me that badly? Am I forgetting something? Am I completely off on this one?

Did I miss something? I didn’t hear anything about a stigmata. She had a condition that was causing a rash and convulsions, which took a little detective work on the part of the doctor to find out what was causing it.

They did have the usual Catholic “digs” about nuns that give a totally unbalanced view to the public what they are really about.

Nah, you’re probably doing many more worthwhile things instead of sitting in front of the TV to see how they defile the Church 😃

I guess it was the digs and stereotypes about nuns that bothered me, maybe I was being oversensitive, but if the show had digs about Blacks, Jews, Muslims, etc, it would not be shown

Have you been watching House for very long???
There are plenty of digs all around, especially from house…
he and the black intern trade barbs often, as he does with the rich white kid, and there are always comments about the various patients wheeling through the hospital.
