I came across this video on youtube from the 2011 annual gathering of JW’s, which is called a “District Convention”, that is held in San Diego at Qualcomm Stadium. This video took place about 4 weeks ago. The maker of the video appears to be a born again Christian and it’s very telling on how JW’s deal with non believers. This is how they treat those that they perceive to be “apoststes” (those that were JW’s and have left their faith, which is not the case here, but they think he is) and those who are disfellowshiiped (excommunicated) even if they were family members. Listen closely to the points that the gentleman is trying to make to the viewers of the video.

They are cult.Mind control cult. Truly sad the majority could not answer if they believed in God.

Sort of a reflection in how they view Catholics?..or their fellowship towards us…I say that as a question, not in any way a reference to SDA’s who come on here…

I just wonder if SDA’s fellowship at all with Catholics…

Hey Kathleen,

Just to be clear, SDA’s are not Jehovah’s Witnesses. They are Seventh Day Adventists. But to answer your question, no, JW’s do not fellowship with Catholics. I had a JW employee who would not enter the Catholic Church for the funeral of the daughter of one of her fellow employees. It was truly sad.

Concerning the video, to be fair I think the majority of people avoid someone with a microphone and camera. I very much doubt that this is an accurate representation of the belief’s of JW’s. If you asked them the same question under different circumstances I have no doubt that you would have a 100% YES as an answer to this guy’s question: “Do you believe in Jehovah?” As much as I disagree with JW doctrine and beliefs, this was a set up.

Steve, every year at conventions, when I was a JW, it was publically announced from the field that we were not to talk to apostates. Ever. While I agree, people do tend to shy away from cameras and microphones, they don’t know who this gentleman is and he’s asking them a very simple question, “Do you follow Jehovah” and a simple “yes” would’ve sufficed.

The purpose of this exercise by this man was to show that most of them will put the WTBS’s instructions of not talking to an apostate above even acknowledging “Jehovah’s” own name, which is ironic, considering the man, to the best of my knowledge, isn’t even an “apostate”. You would think they would “stand up for God’s name” in a public situation to “give a witness”, and most blew him off, with a couple of them snapping “Just leave us alone” and “Leave me alone man!”. This religion prides themselves on “being the only religion to use God’s name”, and most walked right by him. The ones that did answer he simply replied with a “thank you.” He wasn’t trying to trick them, otherwise he would pulled a fast one and turned the thing around on those that did answer. This is not a personal attack on them by me, but most of them gave a poor witness. Would they have acted differently if the camera had a local TV station call sign on the side? We’ll never know, but my intuition says yes. Why? To show a TV public that “they stand for God’s true name.” Whether if it’s for one man, or many watching on TV, we must always “be prepared to give a defense for the faith that is in us.” Could you imagine the Catholic Church ever telling the lay people to avoid speaking to people who are speaking against the Church, even if it means not even acknowledging if they follow Christ?

I couldn’t help when watching this of Peter’s 3 denials of even knowing Christ. Let us all pray that if we are put in a much more serious situation, we will never renounce Christ, no matter what. Easy to say, harder to do, I’m sure.

As a side note, my mother was “disfellowshipped” for over 3 years, and this is exactly how she was treated by the others, with no exceptions.

T, you certainly know more about this than I. And you are right. If someone was at a Catholic conference asking questions about our beliefs I would be first in line to answer him. My take on this, however, is analogous to walking down a street and seeing someone up ahead stopping people and asking them questions. Most people will go out of their way to avoid him without even knowing what he is asking. Its just human nature.
But I will take your word for it.

Hmmmmmmm…

Because they are the only ones who would use the name, “Jehovah”…

This is a a most sacred name of God used by the Jews; they told us they do not want Catholics using this name or am I mixing it up with Yahweh…like i mixed up the JW’s with the SDA’s…my friend’s mother had a very hard time visiting their SDA church with their minister…during the church service…

Oh well…guess I will enter only where the I am welcomed…

No, you’re not mixing it up. Jehovah is a poor translation of Yahweh and you are correct, we are no longer allowed to pronounce the sacred Name. Actually, it is unpronounceable when taken from the Hebrew and was replaced with “Lord”.

Blessings, Kathleen.
