BTW GKC I have nothing but disdain for that poor excuse for a BCP, the 1979 ECUSA BCP

The REC has issued its own BCP which is sort of an American version of the CoE 1662 BCP. As far as I am concerned this is THE best American BCP. It is on the Reformed Episcopal Church website in the “Downloads” section.

Well considering that Roman Catholics don’t all agree that there have been 21 ecumenical councils (some of us say that there have only been 7), I would have deem any attempt to united Anglicans around being-Anglican-entails-acceptance-of-the-39-articles, to be an over-ambitious project. (Not that it’s any of my business. 😉 :o )
Excuse my ignorance but what sort of Roman Catholics only hold to 7 ecumenical councils?

In general, I’m way down on the 79 book. I show this by not referring to it as a BCP. But here and there, in small things (adiaphora) they got something right.

Fair’s fair.

See, for example, #8 in this list of questions.

(BTW, since the phrase “Roman Catholics” is sometimes used to mean “Latin Catholics”, I had best clarify that I meant “in full communion with Rome”.)

I agree. However, it is worth remembering that the original shrine was desecrated by the Anglicans. I believe the original statue of Our Lady was taken to London and burned.
Please refrain from trying to sow discontent in our attempt to find interfaith agreement. 🙂

I see my mistake now. Ecumenical councils refer to the ones where all of Christendom was united and so included the Orthodox Christians. Roman Catholics have 22 church councils that they adhere to.

thanks,

I might add that a disagreement about how many ecumenical councils there have been doesn’t necessarily imply a disagreement in doctrine.

Another example of this is that the Eastern Orthodox and the Oriental Orthodox don’t agree about how many ecumenical councils there have been (7 vs. 3) but they are generally said to agree on doctrine (with different emphases, of course).
