Yes. I used to love Beanie & Cecil (Cecil used to yell, I’M C-O-M-I-N-G B-E-A-N-I-E!!!). How about Davy & Goliath? Rocky and Bullwinkle was one of my favorite shows. I loved Fractured Fairy Tales and Boris & Natasha, Peabody & Sherman, too! Any Dark Shadows fans? I loved that show!

Does anyone (else) remember when these were prime-time network shows?

The Honeymooners
I Love Lucy
Father Knows Best
Leave It To Beaver

Does anyone remember these?

Dragnet (pre-Harry Morgan)
Big Top Circus
Andy’s Gang

That is not an exhaustive list, and no, I didn’t spend my whole childhood indoors, watching TV. 😃

Was that the creepy daytime soap opera that, I think, aired in the 60’s? If so, I’ve seen it a few times in reruns on the sci-fi network, and really liked it. I wish I could catch some more episodes. What was the premise of the show?

Don’t forget Under Dog and Gopher Indians. I do not think Gophers could be made today.

I loved

Casey Jones (asteamin’ and arollin’)
The Lone Ranger
High Chapparell
Zorro
The Magic Boomerang
Felix the Cat
Tobor the Eightth Man

and something else which is flickering on the edge of memory, there were 5 (I think) dudes in costumes and the signature tune was pretty catchy and it was a variety show for kids…dang I cannot remember:hmmm:

you can’t leave out red skelton, edgar bergin and charlie mccarthy, senor wences

Two to throw into the mix:

Romper Room (Do be a do bee, don’t be a don’t bee)…there is a site where you can watch clips from the early (50’s and 60’s (which is back when I watched it))

I’ve had many strange looks when I ask people about this, but, thanks to the internet, I know I’m not delusional (or suffering from Alzheimers just yet)…so, anyone out there remember Kimba the White Lion?

“Kimba The White Lion is a wonderful, captivating series. When first shown in America, it was praised universally for its stories of love, compassion, and strength of character.”

I would like to add the George Burns and Gracie Allen show and Jack Benny.

I wonder how many of the current trashy tv shows will be remembered forty years from now?

My favorite as a kid was ULTRAMAN,and the science patrol. It was so funny because I remember seeing the Zipper of the costume. I wish the sci fi channel would rerun some of those episodes. I wonder, are they lost?

Victoria was the governess to the young boy, David, I believe at an estate on the Maine coast named Collinwood. Nearby in another old mansion lived “distant cousin” Barnabas Collins who was of course, the resident Vampire! He moved there from England. Barnabas fell in love with Victoria who reminded him so much of his beloved Josette (from the 1700’s). I think the premise was to humanize Barnabas,( Yes he’s a Vampire, but Vampire’s have feelings, and he’s really nice when not provoked!)They wove into the story, time travel too. Dr. Julia Hoffman was on to Barnabas, and befriended him, but also was fascinated with him and used him for experimentation. She gave him a potion once and he aged about 100 years. That was kinda creepy! Yes. I know tooo much about this show! LOL!!

Thanks Lucania! It sounds like a book I read last year called Hawke’s Harbor by S.E. Hinton (it was also about humanizing a vampire).

I believe it was called Dark Shadows, but I’m not too sure.

I used to love to watch Underdog! Was Gopher Indians the same as Go, Go- Gophers?

Sky King, cowboy show with an airplane instead of horses

Gumby

Pinkie Lee (forerunner of the PeeWee Herman character)

Soupy Sales (ditto)

anybody from Detroit remember Captain (Toby)? who when not in costume was also newscaster for CKLW in Windsor? Sue, help me out here.

anybody in Cleveland remember Barnaby? remember those two goofy guys who did the afternoon movie on channel 43 (I think) on Saturday, tall skinny guy and short fat guy (kids always thought their dad looked like the tall guy) Edwin, do you remember?

this is my personal alzheimers test, does anybody remember the Banana Man, a clown who sometimes appeared on Captain Kangaroo, had this train of boxes from which he kept pulling unlikely objects, always including a huge bunch of bananas, basically a magic act, but he kept humming this eerie little tune.

loved Red Skelton, we were not allowed to watch Milton Berle, whom my mom considered vulgar, but did watch Your Show of Shows with Sid Caesar, Imogene Coca, Ernie Kovacs etc.

We also were not allowed to watch Ed Sullivan, because on Sunday we watched Bishop Sheen and Omnibus with Alistair Cooke (my dad made an exception the first time the Beatles were on with Ed).

In the morning was Ding Dong School with Miss Frances, and Romper Room with Doo-Bee, Romper bomper stomper boo, tell me tell me tell me do, did all the boys and girls and play have fun [and learn or something] today?

Did anyone watch Emergency! (created by Jack Webb from Dragnet) on Saturday nights? Girls, who was your fave paramedic? Mine was Gage, of course. My sister would shoot me for saying this, but she liked Roy DeSoto. I think one of my other sisters liked Dr. Brackett.
Looking back ( I was able to tape all but one episode from tvland) Mike Stoker, the only real firefighter, so he drove the ladder truck, was the real hottie.

I posted this on another thread but forgot to post it here.
I had found a site for those who wonder whether their favorite TV show is on DVD.
TV Shows on DVD I am sure you’ll be surprised on what is available…I was!

Thanks for that link, Edwin! Alas, one of my favorite shows, “Leave It to Beaver”, is not out on DVD (or video, for that matter), and I don’t know if it’s scheduled to be. :crying: I have just about every episode videotaped, but those are with commercials, and with scenes cut (every old show running today has to have scenes cut to make room for commercials – when the old shows were originally on, commercials only occupied about 5 minutes of every half hour. Today, it’s more like 12). And I don’t even have a working VCR at the moment (I wear out VCRs the way kids wear out their clothes. 😃 )
