How about the Sign of the Cross as You Drive by a Catholic Church?

I’ve always done this as a sign of showing Jesus how much I love Him. Also, making a public display of faith, such as the sign of the cross in public, gains one a partial indulgence.🙂

Yes - I do this too. And a friend of mine always says “Hello, Jesus!” as we drive by - I think it’s very sweet.

I do it all the time:) One of my friends does it and I picked it up from her (one year after becoming Catholic). She explained to me what it meant and I’ve been doing it ever since.

I do it. I usually add a prayer too. Generally just “Lord Jesus, I believe in You.” but if I have a special thing I’m praying for I might substitute that. If I’m wearing a baseball cap or something I take it off for a moment as well.

When I’m driving to school I can see the top glimpse of our Cathedral, just the roof and two spires, as I round a corner for maybe fifteen seconds. I’ve gotten to the point where even if I’m thinking about something else my brain catapaults me out of it just in time to see the Cathedral and cross myself before I can’t see it anymore. We’re also building a new church, and I pass by it often. There I grab the crucifix on the rosary hanging from my review mirror and pray that it will be a good, orthodox, Catholic church.

In these days of political correctness, one needs to be careful not to offend (tongue in cheek). I worked at a local (name removed by moderator)atient/outparient treatment center last summer where I learned that lesson. I was hired to work with some kids who were doing a summer outpatient treatment and to make it easier on their parents, they turned it into an all day affair. I did kind of a summer school with them.

Well, long story short, one morning an ambulance pulled up to the front doors and we pressed our noses to the windows to see what was going on. When an (name removed by moderator)atient was brought out on a stretcher I *silently *asked for healing for this person and crossed myself.

The next morning I was called into the director’s office and told I offended one of the youngsters, that I was pushing my religion on her, and that in the future I needed to leave my relifgion at the door! I took off my badge and said, “Where I go my religion goes and we are leaving. Good bye and God bless you, in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost.” I made the sign of the cross as I said the last.
