I have sinned mortally, and I heard that an act of perfect contrition can substitute confession when you are unable to go to confession. I have true intent to go to confession on Sunday, but I can’t till then. How do you make an act of perfect contrition? A lot of places on the internet confused me about this.

Someone please correct me on this if I’m wrong, but what distinguishes imperfect contrition from perfect contrition isn’t an external act but your interior disposition. If you truly repent your sins out of love of God and not just fear of hell, that is perfect contrition. I would say a normal Act Of Contrition prayer and focus on feeling truly, perfectly contrite for your sins.

You can’t force an act of perfect contrition. It’s a grace given by God. I would try to go to confession as soon as possible, don’t wait til Sunday.

Confessions at my church is very early in the morning and also I have to go to school so it isn’t an option 😰

I’m not sure if I can differentiate the two? I think I need more help on that. Thank you.

Call your priest and make an appointment, most priests will accommodate. It’s better than risking it until Sunday.

Ok I’ll consider that, but I wonder if anyone will take me there or give permission

No, school is very important, and unexplained absence without a major cause may lead to punishment.

I’d say needing to go to confession is the most major cause.

I’ll go at Sunday, or maybe Saturday depending on the time thanks for the reply.

They make very clear cut definitions on confessions; both perfect and imperfect contrition make a good confession, attrition and being a reprobate who confesses make sacreligious confessions.

Well you need to be sorry because your sins offended God. So meditate upon the Passion and death if Jesus. Do the stations of the Cross, meditate on the Sorrowful mysteries. Read Anne Catherine Emmerich’s accounts of the Passion. And just pray to God and Mary to Grant you perfect Contrition
