St Augustine said, You have made us for yourself o Lord and our hearts are restless until they rest in thee. St Teresa of Avila says we have a million/s of chambers or rooms inside our souls. Only God can fully satisfy us by filling up all our desires, longings, yearnings, cravings, appetites etc etc. Many of these we don’t even know we have. We are all religious beings and have a very, very deep need for God even if we don’t know it. When we know and love the true God we are set free from the slavery to sin and live in the light. When we choose the true God we are choosing heaven because He is heaven. So if we want to go to heaven simply choose it and do what one must to get it.
When people do not believe in the true God or choose Him they do not free themselves from this deep need for God we all have. We must have God/s. They choose false Gods and these false Gods are sins like pride, greeed, lust, vanity etc etc. Whatever we put before God becomes our God. So we have no choice. We must choose which God/s we want. When we die we get the God we have chosen. The wise get the true and Living God. The unwise get the false and dead God/s. When the unwise come before our Blessed Lord they realise the folly of their lives and see all and know all. But it’s too late now. They have chosen unwisely. They have not prepared themselves to be with the true God. They do get their God/s they have chosen though. With all this knowledge of the truth they now have, the Gods they have chosen accompany them to the place of non God which we call hell. In there they experience their God/s for all eternity. They hate their God/s and despise them. But their stuck with them. The knowledge of what they’ve lost and their tormented consciences as they continually experience the God/s of their choosing creates an agonising feeling for them like burning up alive. It’s possible the fire of hell could symbolise them burning up in agonising pain. They create their own hell and go their by their own free choice. So it’s very wise to choose the true God and heaven. People can go to heaven if they are of other religions or genuinely ignorant as the chuch has always known too.

What do you think of this theory?

God bless all:thumbsup:🙂

People choose to go to Hell when they commit mortal sin. It takes full knowledge and consent, after all.

Spot on dear friend

I think that all sins become our Gods because anything we put before God becomes a false God. I think we receive the God /s of our choosing when we die and experience that God/s eternally. Those who choose false Gods are in agony as a result as said.

Best not to sin too much and always repent I think.

God bless you:thumbsup:🙂

John Russell Jr,

The false gods we indulge ourselves in, that is our sinful ways raised to the level of idolatry, are certainly responsible for our loss of the true God if we have not amended our ways before we die.

Make no mistake however; There is a real Hell.

This is how Sister Lucia described a vision of it as given to her and Francisco and Jacinta, the children of Fatima, by Our Lady:

"She (Our Lady) opened Her hands once more, as She had done the two previous months. The rays [of light] appeared to penetrate the earth, and we saw, as it were, a vast sea of fire. Plunged in this fire, we saw the demons and the souls [of the damned]. The latter were like transparent burning embers, all blackened or burnished bronze, having human forms. They were floating about in that conflagration, now raised into the air by the flames which issued from within themselves, together with great clouds of smoke. Now they fell back on every side like sparks in huge fires, without weight or equilibrium, amid shrieks and groans of pain and despair, which horrified us and made us tremble with fright (it must have been this sight which caused me to cry out, as people say they heard me). The demons were distinguished [from the souls of the damned] by their terrifying and repellent likeness to frightful and unknown animals, black and transparent like burning coals.”

My dear friends

I’ve been pondering the red hilited part above about the fire of hell. My thoughts are that it’s probably right that the damned experience a spiritual fire that consumes them in their agony. But God did create hell and fill it with spiritual fire so to speak. It must be a special spiritual fire because the angels are spirit and man is body and spirit. It must do more than just harm the body. God had to create this place of non God we call hell this way as a deterent to all, so that they would make the wise choice of choosing Him. God cannot say- if you choose to not be with me I have created a paradise you’ll be happy in anyway. In order to make a perfect creation that included Angels and man with free will God had to create hell. It’s because of the infinite perfection of God and that He does all infinitely perfectly that we must have hell as a deterent. The infinite justice of God demands a place of punishment if we reject Him. But the main instigator that caused God to create hell is His infinite mercy. God knows we need a deterent for our own good. This is how infinite justice and infinite mercy blend together in the creation of hell. We either choose God or non God, so we must choose wisely. The devils knew full well what this place of punishment was like before rebelling. They refused to serve God and made their choice. God did not desire any Angels go to hell and made it as is to deter them but they still rebelled and chose the place of non God ( the fallen Angels rebelled, not all of them ). Man has free will and chooses his own eternity too. God does not desire that any perish and helps all of us more than we can ever imagine to avoid this place but if we persist in our refusal to love and serve God we can only go to one place - the place of non God. Just to clarify things - it is because of Gods infinite perfection that He had to create a place of non God and make it a place of severe punishment in order to deter beings from disobeying Him because we need God and must choose Him to be happy etc and for our own good. There’s only 2 places we can finish up so we must choose wisely.

May God bless us all and preserve us from sin:thumbsup::):)🙂

Holy Mother, please help all those who choose false gods to find the one true God, and to find the sweet solace of Your Son’s love in Heaven. Amen.

An unrepentant sinner is one who “loves” evil. A person can “choose” hell… by choosing a sinful life style and by making sinful choices, with full knowledge.

In this way… they reject God… 😦 and “choose” hell. God respects our free will, which He has given us. He will never interfere in our choices.

As to “why” some people do this, John… I really have no clue. 🤷 My opinions on this, would be only speculation. But I’m comforted to know that Jesus, most Merciful.. is our Just Judge. That He and He alone, can see the true intent and condition of each heart… and judges us, accordingly.

This is what gives hope to the REPENTANT sinner (such as yours truly 😊 ).

God bless you.

My dear friend Marie

Thank you for your thoughts on this. We must just trust in the mercy of God for sure. And He is very merciful, infinitely merciful to those that love Him.

God bless you:thumbsup:🙂

I think there will be many many people in hell that thought they were on the highway to heaven. Even within the church, many are led astray. Some it is pride (I’m better than that awful scum over there), resentment (why is that family so blessed when someone like me has noting), even bitterness (what has God done for me lately?). Other things can enter in as well. That’s why we must stay vigilant in the spirit so we can fight these attacks on us.

Liberation and repression, sickness and health, poverty and wealth, heaven and hell, good and bad, happiness and misery, peace and panic appear to be opposites, but they are only the result of opposing forces, the forces that lead us to the one power or God. These forces teach us how to live and how to think so we can be happy in unity. Man already has this ability to be at peace, but first he must realize his relation to the Whole, a relationship with God in complete unity.

Very good. If you haven’t you should read my posts re my theory of the equilibrium on this forum. It’s titled- what is a saint …etc.

I agree John that the greatness of the saints is beyond description because they are free from the dark misery of the materialistic mind which is responsible for the cruelty in the system of things we are experiencing today. These saints are free because they are unattached and have never hardened their minds to the physical world. They do respond though without delay to the trembling nerves they might encounter and to all the problems and questions, spoken and unspoken. Their desire is to remove the causes of sorrow whether they are physical, mental or spiritual because they prevent the unfortunate people in this world from happiness. Compared with true bliss nothing is of any importance because fame, health and success are nothing compared to the happiness experienced in the soul. The happiness evoked in the Discriminate Mind is not the same thing as excitement or pleasure experienced in the lower layers, it is a deep flowing calm, a satisfaction that mounts up at times into ecstasy and is to be shared with others.

I saw thisthread and it brought to mind a story related by St. Vincent Ferrer:
An archdeacon in Lyons gave up his charge and retreated into a desert place to do penance, and that he died the same day and hour as Saint Bernard. After his death, he appeared to his bishop and said to him, “Know, Monsignor, that at the very hour I passed away, thirty-three thousand people also died. Out of this number, Bernard and myself went up to heaven without delay, three went to purgatory, and all the others fell into Hell.”
I aslo thought about St. Theresa of Avila’s vision of hell, and how she was told that the sins that were apparently light in her life would have led her to hell.

I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately. We may not think that we are choosing hell, but our neglects, our forgotten mortal sins, our habits, and the sins we assume are minor are our choices.

Christy Beth’s and MarieVeronica’s comments were very good. 👍

Great Thread John Russell! 🙂

My dear friend

I agree with you I’m sure. Material things are absolutely vital to us whilst here. But the pursuit of the higher things which are spiritual are far more important. We should strive for the eternal treasures of grace and virtue. Money brings but a temporary joy, but the real treasures bring eternal ecstatic bliss in the world to come. These should be our greatest desire. All we do should include our pursuit of these.

May God bless you:thumbsup:🙂
