Do they pro-create with each other, or does God create them?

Or do we become an angel if we make it to heaven, and so that would answer my question!

Thanks

The Angels are pure spirits. They are like souls without bodies. That’s what they’re meant to be. It’s their very nature. Angelic beings do not procreate like human beings. God simply created them directly. Some Fathers of the early Church said that all the angels were already created when the material Universe was made. 1/3 of the angels fell and became rebellious demons, and 2/3 of the angels remained loyal. There are no new angels, because they do not die and have no need of procreation.

If we humans get to Heaven, we will be bodiless souls and very similar to the angels - but that will only last until the Resurrection of the body on the last day of Time. We will be raised again in our bodies, changed and glorified. Our nature is fundamentally different from that of the holy angels. Different goals and different ends.

Interesting question. I would add: what about the angels in Genesis chapter six, the ā€œbene Elohimā€ ie; ā€œsons of Godā€ who mated with human women? Does the church have a different take on that story? I’m still learning the Catholic view regarding some things.

God said, POOOF …and there they were! šŸŽ‰

We don’t become angels when we die, like the movies tell us.

Angels were created by God in the beginning & they don’t pro-create.

What iota of evidence do you have for all these statements?

The God-appointed Magisterium of our Catholic Church; and the inspired Saints and Doctors of the Church.

St. Thomas Acquinas rates high in the wisdom and knowledge he was given.

If by ā€œevidenceā€ you are referring to the integral concept in scientific empiricism: I have not one iota of that to give you for this subject. By the very nature of the thing we are discussing - incorporeal beings whose existence is known only by revelation - there can be no rational evidence.

If by ā€œevidenceā€ you mean references, sources, and citations from the Tradition of the Catholic Church, there are plenty. The easiest beginning is to read the Catechism of the Catholic Church. As to the inequality between angels and humans, see paragraph 327 of that document. As to the purely spiritual nature of angels, see paragraph 328. As to their immortality, immutability, and perfection of strength, see paragraph 330. I’m sure the writings of Pseudo-Dionysius the Aeropagite can help with understanding, too.

The idea that people ā€œturn intoā€ angels when they die is advanced by well meaning people that insist on telling this to children. ā€œYour granny is an angel in heaven watching youā€. This is not the teaching of the Church. Angels, are pure, non-corporal spiritual beings of high intelligence and free will. They have no bodies, do no procreate. Their number is unknown, and none are ā€œunder constructionā€. šŸ˜‰
When we die, if we go to heaven, we become part of the communion of saints which refers to everyone in heaven, which we acknowledge at every Mass, and ask for their intercession.

Good reading on the theology of Angels can be found on the EWTN online library.
But what others have said pretty well covers it.

Doesn’t St. Thomas Aquinas say that each angel is species unto itself.

Glad you found it interesting šŸ˜‰

I’ve yet to find writings on how the church views the scripture on angels mating with human females!

That scriptural verse, or group of verses, is another quite ā€œinterestingā€ topic. There are a number of different interpretations but nothing definitive, far as I know.

But the Church Fathers have commented on these passages.

They appear as human though do they not? Or did we just describe them as human?

So God does not create anymore angels, they are ageless spiritual beings, beyond space and time, like God?

By the way, why do you think I am a she? šŸ™‚

Are you really serious?
Yes.

Some people say they have seen their guardian angel or angels, and most all paintings I’ve seen show a human form, and so I wondered if God could still be creating beings in the massive universe we are a part of…

You could be an angel for all I know, just messing with us. I would stick my tongue out, but now I’m afriad.

They are not ageless, I think, they were created at a point in time, but that point in time is impossible to define, it seems to me. it was before the creation of the Earth and of man.

No one is like God. Thats’ what started the entire fight between St. Michael the Archangel and Lucifer. Lucifer said he was unwilling to serve Jesus, true God and true man. He said ā€œI will not serve. We are like Godā€. And Michael said ā€œWHO is like God???ā€
Michael, in Hebrew means ā€œwho is like Godā€. Because that was his response.

It’s hard to tell gender on anonymous forums. I don’t mean to offend. Sorry.

They DO appear as human, or else people would freak out, no? šŸ˜‰

Yes we never know who we are speaking to. There’s that saying that says something like, speak to people as though you were speaking to Christ…something like that.

But they are immortal, I mean they are pure spirits and so could never die unless God decided to end their spirit.
Yes it was a very very long time ago, well in human terms anyway! šŸ˜› šŸ‘

I didn’t mean angels were like God as in the same as God, I meant they exist outside of space and time the way God does. (hope I explained that ok)

No apology needed šŸ˜‰

Yes, but then how do we know they are not a figment of our imaginations? Because they look human, does not mean they are Angels…
Scary thought.
