How are the apocrypha biblical?

I was a cradle Catholic, and had never heard the term “apocrypha” before my non-Catholic friend asked about it. Why do we have certain books in our Bible that Protestants do not? I can NEVER find a straight answer online. My friend stated that it’s “not biblical.” Thanks.
 
These links should be helpful for explaining the Church’s continued inclusion of the deuterocanonical books (sometimes referred to by Protestants as the Apocrypha, which BTW can also be found in the actual 1611 edition KJB which are still available.) in the Bible.
