How are we to understand this about Jesus and Mary?

While reading in a book by John Haffert, I ran across this statement: “He says (St. Louis de Montfort) that Mary is by Grace what Jesus is by Nature”. I had never run across that statement before. How are us Catholics to understand such a statement? Or is this an example of Catholics, as claimed by some seperated brethren and also Orthodox in general, overstating their praise of Mary?

Hi,

While I no expert on St. Louis de Monfort, this statement sounds rather up-front to me. Basically, holiness originates in Jesus by his nature as God. Holiness in Mary, however, is a gift of grace from God and does not originate in her because she is a creature.
