How bad is immodesty?

I find layering great.

Want to wear that low cut v neck? Wear a black camisole underneath (maybe with lingerie tape if you want). Want to wear tight skinny jeans? Pair them with a long cardi or shirt that covers your bum. Want to wear a mid thigh skirt? Pair with leggings or thick tights.

TBH, my only gauge for modesty was what my dad said was immodest. I’m fairly sure he took it farther than necessary; at least I know a chastity speaker who thought that things that my dad said were off limits were modest. I can’t wear the clothes he said were immodest because, annoyingly, I can’t read mens’ minds

Honestly I’d be happy if I could wear not-baggy jeans without feeling the need to cover my bum with a cardi.

My dad is weird with modesty too. He constantly contradicts himself. He is generally a weird dude though.

I usually wear skinny jeans. I don’t have a bum at all, and the jeans are typically the right size (hugs the legs but it doesn’t look painted on). My friends call me a nun, so maybe I’m doing something right, lol

The muslim girls here dress beautifully too. I don’t know how they survive, but they look so effortlessly put together.

I noticed two young at Mass recently: One dressed very modestly, and the other immodestly. I’m not what others were thinking and feeling, but the one dressed modestly looked far more sexy to me! I experienced no sexual thoughts either, but came to the conclusion that sexiness can not be easily hidden away!

I agree. While other people might noticed a woman dressed immodestly, I often don’t. “Did you see that woman wearing that blah that showed her blah?” No, I actually didn’t. There have been instances where I’ve actually not noticed women wearing far less. Yet, if there’s a woman who’s dressed modestly, I’ll notice her in a crowded room while everyone else misses her.

For what it’s worth, I’m a guy, and I do notice how women dress. I also have a few female friends who help promote a culture of modesty, where a woman can be dressed fashionably and classy, while being modest (i.e. you don’t have to wear something that looks like a sheet, or a long skirt with tennis shoes that looks out of place).

Part of being modest (and most women know this) that what looks nice and fashionable on one woman may look out of place on another. Most women when they dress (from observation and from some women friends) take into account things like body type, height, hair length, etc. into how they dress. For example, I have a female friend who is a petite build, and she likes to wear heels. A taller woman (i.e. 5’-8"+) may not like to wear heels. I have another female friend who is athletic, and she wears modest athletic clothes when she goes to the gym. Years ago, one gym I belonged to had a dress code for both men and women (i.e. shorts for both men and women had to be a certain length, and women couldn’t wear sport bras unless they wore a t-shirt over them, and men had to wear a t-shirt - no half shirts or muscle shirts).

As a man, I have had to learn to maintain custody of the eyes. When I talk to an attractive lady, I have to make sure that I am looking at her face, and my mind doesn’t go somewhere else. I also think a woman appreciates it when a man is talking to her about a topic that interests her.
