It is amazing how posts on this board often get ignored when they are a solid argument but the answers that can get refuted are the ones discussed…someone on here named perplexity was looking for “evidence” and “proof for God” and my response was to do exactly what the bible says…If you obey God’s commands then the Holy Spirit will enter you and when that happens you will come to know Christ who will show you to the Father…theoretically if one does an “experiment” by not sinning and following God’s will for 7 days then that should sufficently prove God’s existence in a subjective fashion.

ANSWERING OBJECTIONS-
  1. I tried this and it didn’t work
answer-- no you didn’t, you are just saying so for the sake of argument, and if I go on to ask you questions about this 7 day period you will most likely become flustered…i had people do this to me before but so far everyone on this board seems honest…please do not say you did this already just for the sake of argument, because not only are you lying to us, but cheating yourself as well
  1. Isn’t such an “experiment” putting God to the test
answer- no it is not God that you are testing it is yourself…no one can be free from sin without giving up their Will to God, in order not to break the commandments we must love god with our heart mind and soul…therefore when you try this experiment the first thing you must do is give up your will to God…by doing so your motive is an honest seeking of the truth…if you are doing this for another motive it is impossible to succeed at it anyway which of course will prove the experiment anyway…besides the atheists and agnostics who would say this puts God to the test would have no trouble putting him to the test any other time such as demanding a miracle…ah, but now it is YOU who has to do the work
  1. It is impossible to go without sin for 7 days
Please give evidence to support such an outlandish claim.
  1. An atheist cannot love GOd because he does not believe him therefore it is impossible to not sin
answer- I’m sure the loving, just, and merciful God we are asking you to believe in will answer the prayer that asks “please give me faith that i may love you” such a prayer is ALWAYS answered…remember “not sinning” is only half of it…the other half is “do God’s Will” that implies action, not isolating yourself

anything i miss?

so is anyone going to expand upon this topic? If religion is only in our minds and not put to practical use then it is dead.

Did they give a further response?

If not, perhaps you didn’t miss anything and she had nothing left to argue back…
I kinda see her point about a week without sinning being impossible… But that’s just me. I have a difficult enough time driving down the road with people who can’t or shouldn’t be driving! Maybe if I never left the house … Jk
Truly, I believe they were all good answers and doubt I could have answered as well.

Do you know what kind of proof she wants? Just curious.

yeah a type of proof that does not involve any work or sacrifice at all, the type of proof that would prove not a god but a genie who grants wishes, 7 days without committing a mortal sin but for the sake of argument if one does they can immediately go to confession for it, if being perfect for 7 days is too much to ask then how about being as perfect as possible for 7 days first?
