We would like to instruct my 8 y.o. daughter at home.
Have any of you done this? Would like advice on materials, structure of curriculum, etc…

Thanks!

Ahh yes- That looks wonderful! Thank you.

I have 3 volumes of the Baltimore and was going to use them in addition to other things.

Be sure to speak with your priest and your DRE to ensure that whatever you choose is OK by them. Parents absolutely have the right to instruct their children at home in the faith, indeed you are the first teachers of the faith.
Many parishes in Diocese require classroom instruction for Sacramental Prep.
Just schedule a meeting and see what the requirements are in your parish. They will certainly accommodate you as much as that particular Bishop permits.

Having said all that, one of the BEST things you can do for your child is to have them see you receiving Eucharist with love, reverence and devotion. This is an exciting time in their lives. God bless.

We homeschool and our parish is very homeschool friendly, so they did not raise any eyebrows at us handling our own curriculum. Each parish is different. And many may not want you to do this. But most of the time you can work with them. It may mean that you have to report to the DRE or Father. We were heavily involved in the RE at our old parish so our eldest did go through that program. As for curriculum. We use Seton for homeschooling and it is quite adequate to handle the RE for first communion. In fact the first and second grade religious curriculum is quite first communion heavy. But honestly, for a real cheap and easy curriculum… The Baltimore Catechism has a First and Second Grade version that is perfectly adequate and then you, as a parent just expand on what the BC talks about.
Just be careful that you do not make it the Church of Solomon Grundy. And make sure you also work with Father or the DRE as far as the Actual First communion Mass goes. You may need to be involved with rehearsals for this as well. For our first daughter we had to speak up about receiving on the tongue as our whole family does. For this one, just a couple weeks ago, we did not have that issue. But it is best that you know the FAQ of the First communion ceremonies including dress codes. And handle everything with levelheadedness, respect and charity when dealing with your parish.
