Any insight i have been engaged to a wonderful holy woman for almost 3 years but i can see this relationship as a marriage will never work. I am a widower going on 5 years. She has never been able to blend or get to know my children in anyway. She finds all there actions either rude or offensive …i dont see it that way… but i can discern that this marriage would hurt everyone involved. I do love her and i dont want to hurt her anymore…tomorrow we meet with her confessor for one last effort to save this relationship but i sense it’s over i have never had ro sever a relationship likethis before so please pray for me and any insight would be appreciated. JP ps …my children are daughters 13,20,and 22 all living at home…we have never set a date after even being 2 years engaged

It is good that you have discovered this great divide before you join in marriage. That’s the purpose of an engagement period. Listen to the wisdom offered by your confessor and then gently tell her that you feel that your breakup would be in the best interest of all them involved. Marriage involves more than 2 people, especially when there are children. Keep praying on it, Make a trip to adoration, but listen to what your heart and your brain is telling you. It does not mean that you cannot retain a friendship if she is willing, but marriage is a covenant and that is what this relationship seems to be missing on.

A sacrament of unity and fruitful love. God bless you as you make this life-changing decision. But I think you already know what you have to do. May the Holy Spirit give you the courage to face what lies ahead.

My sympathy to you.
It sounds like you’re ready to do what you need to do.

While it’s difficult to be a widower who is father to three girls, it’s far more difficult for that same man to be married to someone who chooses to disrespect, dishonor and disregard his children.
