Hello

I have many arguments with my son regarding different social issues !
He is pro choice and he is convinced the woman has every right to determine wether she wants to keep the baby or not ,he is against late term abortion and was offended with the abortionist murder trial … I am praying and will continue to pray !

HERE’S A GOOD ONE, AND YOU DON’T EVEN HAVE TO CONVINCE SOMEONE TO JOIN YOU IN CHRISTIANITY FIRST.
Many would argue that it is a woman’s right to choose what she does with her body. Except that, even with today’s scientific and technological advances, nothing can surpass the success rate of intercourse as a manner of human conception, and nothing, short of sterilization, guarantees its prevention like abstinence. Abortion therefore,is just a small symptom of a larger problem, which is irresponsibility, and feigned ignorance of
the significance of the previously mentioned activity.
Human conception, resultant children (new people) and posterity are often the, overt,
primary drivers for a society. The overt drivers. The author here posits that they are the only true drivers for maintaining societal agreement for the reason must extend past today, by definition, and tomorrow by logical conclusion.

The driver for a continued societal agreement that extends past tomorrow will include
new generations of people. Thereby, more people (new generations) compound exponentially the need for, and the individuals involved in the agreement (the trappings and blessings of society). The consequence of this interrelation is paramount to the continuance of societal armistice. To ignore this, or downplay its importance is to risk societal agreement [invite ruin]. Continuing with the example; it cannot be said, that a woman can ignore or discard the societal agreement she has formed with a person of her invitation [her child], but maintain or value the societal agreement she Maintains with the Author, or another. It is no small matter to say that the life [by handicap] of an individual entered into societal agreement [by default/proxy] is meaningless, yet that of another is valued. Ergo, if you want to chuck this ‘supposed’ small part of our agreement, the Author might be willing to chuck the rest.
Therefore, by the same example, if a woman has been given the right to CHOOSE
intercourse [uncorrupted by compunction], and the Author fully supports the assumption of the complete weight of choice, risk, and consequence of each and every party to it, jointly and severally, then again, by the self-same choice, the woman has also chosen the overwhelming possibility to create another person. For, wheresoever by mutual intercourse the pairing is mutually responsible for the activity, still, ultimately, and by the self-same choice the woman is INDIVIDUALLY liable for the creation [outcome/consequence] until at least the fruition of labor. If a person [in this case, the most obvious example, the woman] has chosen intercourse, and, in her opinion, blown-it, then the Author contends, the woman should not be given further opportunities to make ‘bad’ choices. If a woman’s choice for intercourse has been usurped, or if her life is threatened by continued carriage, then society cannot ask her for anything else in this matter,[3].

I am 21 years old. At 18 I did not comprehend the reality of abortion so I can identify with your son. I did not want to stand against anyone’s rights. But abortion is not a right. All you have to do is ask yourself when you believe life begins? Of course it truly begins at conception, anyone who believes in the existence of a soul knows this. But even the most ardent atheists must admit that if life ends when the heart stops, surely life begins when the heart is formed (within 3 weeks of conception). The right to choose? This is therefore no more a right than if the government were to decriminalise rape and say men had the right to choose whether they preferred consensual or non-consensual sex. I don’t believe that women choose abortion lightly, however I believe there are many people who do not comprehend the reality of abortion.
God Bless,

Easy - prochoice is the choice a woman wants to murder her unborn baby who is denied choice and the right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.

I wish it was that easy !
The secular media , the school ,the Internet … Etc
My son even goes to mass every Sunday and he just started attending our parish youth group.
I will keep praying and I need your prayers too!

Well, thanks be to God he is against late-terms and is appalled with Gosnell’s abortions.

I suggest he get hooked up with a Catechism. If he is a really, truly faithful Catholic, he will want to learn the faith.

It also could not hurt to offer him a look at Live Action.

Have him read George Orwell’s essay on the dangers of euphemism:

orwell.ru/library/essays/politics/english/e_polit/

I prefer to call these things what they truly are rather than with loaded and ambiguous phrases. I oppose the legalization of elective abortions. Therefore I consider myself anti-abortion. People who support the legalization of elective abortions I consider pro-abortion. The rest of the phrases are just garbage euphemisms used to manipulate. That a person fixates upon the vague indirectness of the euphemism and cannot accept ownership of the factual result is evidence that they have allowed that kind of propaganda rhetoric (and that’s what it is) mislead them.

If a 1930s era German decided he was supportive of “racial hygiene”, as it was defined by the national socialists, but then demurred when somebody pointed out that implies he supports (at the very least) rounding up Jews and sterilizing them, then he would represent the perfect example of how this kind of language can go wrong.

Abuse of moral law tends to be justified via an abuse of language. You don’t need to look far to find examples of this. It’s not just a nazi thing either. We obviously have the “pro-choice” issue at hand, but also consider phrases like “regime change” versus war, or “entitlement spending” versus social welfare spending.

This phenomenon spans the spectrum of severity and scope, but it’s basically the same category of abuse of language used to justify what people would not otherwise accept.

Our technology is at the point now where a baby born 3 months pre-mature can now grow up to be a healthy adult. So if a baby isn’t a human being when he/she gets aborted 6 months into the pregnancy, would it then not stand to reason that this pre-maturely born baby, at 6 months, is also not a human being and can be disposed of if the mother desires to do so? (ie. by using a shotgun)

Ultimately, if you support abortion, then you are only a sliver away from supporting infanticide. We already had a case in Canada where a mother strangled her new-born baby to death and the judge basically said no jail-time because what she did wasn’t that different from a late-term abortion:

lifesitenews.com/news/judge-rules-no-jail-time-for-infanticide-because-canada-accepts-abortion/

If you accept infanticide, what then stops a mother from murdering her toddler or young child? Basically, you end up with a society that discards its weak and vulnerable… and such a society will not last long.

I was raised to think pro choice was good and then I saw photos of just what exactly was being debated. Chopped up babies. In that moment I obtained complete clarity.

It worked for me.

I have seen some able to look at that and justify it still. For them all that exists is prayer.

Find pictures and make him look at them. Information is out there but people refuse to know the facts because that would make them question their position.

I disagree. Pro-choice is accepting that people will make their own choices whether it is legal or not, and praying that they make the right choice because they want to, not because they didn’t have the option.

My then-girlfriend had a pregnancy scare, and I admit I thought about it. I’m not an idiot, I know what it is and what it looks like, I don’t need to see scary pictures. You don’t want someone to make the right choice by fear, but rather by will. For me, something good did come out of it. It made me almost feel ready for the role. As such, I’ve been trying out that chastity thing you people are always on about. 😉 AND I just admitted to it. Spiritual growth. :yeah_me:

Point out to him the need to presume in favor of life, human life. The “burning building” analogy is one that I like to use.

If a building is on fire and someone isn’t sure they heard or saw a person still trapped inside, the firemen must act on the assumption that there is, and go check, and if it’s verified, bring the person to safety before letting the fire burn itself out.

We must presume in every case that there is a human being in a pregnant woman’s body AND that that person is entitled to a chance to be born if God wills it. If we are even .000001 percent “pro-choice,” then we are in essence saying that in some instance it is okay to directly kill a developing human being. That’s just not okay. :nope:

When presenting this to your son, acknowledge that he may have good intentions in not wanting to feel like he is “forcing” his morality on someone. However, in this case he is supporting a view that it is sometimes okay for a pregnant woman to force death on her baby.

Another good thing to expose him to - and that I would do instead of just plunking down gruesome post-abortion imagery in front of him - is to have him read some of the testimony by Project Rachel or Silent No More Awareness of how abortion is traumatic to women. How many go into it because they feel they have no “choice,” they feel pressured. Granted, some of this information is disturbing, and some is graphic, but he may not need to read the worst accounts to get the message.

While it’s easy to attribute his views on abortion to secular influences/immaturity/ignorance, with all due respect I think some of you are missing the possibility he actually has justifiable reasons for them.

Lamia, if you haven’t done so already question him and listen to his answers. Why does he believe women should have the right to choose an abortion? Why is he against late-term abortions? When should the legal “cut-off” for abortions begin, and why? It’s just a starting point but you should understand his reasons.

👍

Always the most important step in trying to convince somebody of something. Listen to what they actually think and why they think it. Try to actually understand where they are coming from. 🙂

Although, as for an actual argument that “pro-choice” is “pro-abortion” is to ask him how many actions his “pro-choice” attitude extends to. Does he believe that citizens ought to be given the choice to steal from other citizens? Does he believe that rapists ought to be given the choice to rape others? Does he believe serial killers and gang-members ought to be given the choice under law to kill others? If not, then it is clear that he is not truly “pro-choice” but is only “pro-certain-choices”. This means that when he says he is “pro-choice” and by that means that abortion should be legal, what that really means is that he is "pro-the-particular-choice-that-is-abortion-as-opposed-to-the-choice-that-is-theft/rape/murder etc.
