How can I defend Mary's perpetual virginity?

Hello and thank you for looking at my question. I am very tired of having to defend Mary and have been repeatedly told she was not a virgin and Jesus had brothers and sisters. I have tried to say that isn’t the case, that the term bretheren means cousin or related but not brother /sister in the sense we understand it now. Can you help me with all of this as I feel very sad Mary is a point mostly of ridicule among people who don’t understand Catholcism ? God Bless you.
