How can I explain the Catholic Church's views on gay marriage?

How can I succintly explain the Catholic Church’s views on gay marriage? Everything i read is rather long, and the person I am trying to explain it to would not have the attention span to read anything lengthy. This person has bought in to the idea that because gay people have suffered discrimination, ridicule, ostracization, etc. because of their orientation, gay marriage would ameliorate that. I know the Church is very compassionate and loving to those with a homosexual orientation, separating the person from any actions they may or may not do. How do I explain in a way that can get through ?
