Hi,

I’m getting married in October and my wife and I will be going to Rome on honeymoon. While there we will be attending the Sposi Novelli blessing by the Pope. One of the requirements to attend is that we bring proof of our recent marriage. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if it’s possible to get a copy of the Marriage Certificate from the parish immediately after the ceremony?

Thanks

It should be. Just call the parish office or ask the pastor. What is probably meant by proof of your marriage is not the fancy certificate you get at Mass, but rather a marriage record from the parish, sealed with the parish seal.

You should get the original with the seal from your church shortly after you are married.

The couple is given a marriage certificate with the Church’s raised seal upon the marriage.

If I remember correctly I received it after the ceremony. It’s been a while though.:o

That is terrific. We attended the papal audience on our honeymoon as well. B16 was Pope at that time.

I’m curious as to why you would ask here instead of asking your pastor. After all, it is he who will supply the certificate. We do not know how things are done in your parish.

I suggest you talk about your plans for your honeymoon, Sposi Novelli audience, and the need for an immediate certificate bearing the pastor’s signature and parish seal.

It should not be an issue at all, but having the pastor know of your need in advance is important.

Are you going through North American College for assistance with the process?

We did, and they were quite helpful:

I was just seeing if it would be difficult or what. I will ask my Parish Priest when I see him next of course.

We didn’t go through the North American College as I assumed that they only organise it for people travelling from North America.
I called the Dublin Archdiocese office and asked them and they said to apply to the Prefect of the Papal Household. So we wrote them and got a reply that we had tickets reserved for the Wednesday General Audience on 26th Oct.
Cheers

Ah, I didn’t notice your location before!

Visited Ireland in 1999 and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Blessings on your upcoming nuptials!
