Hi, Raymond King,

Tedious? Hmmm after all of 24 posts. I see you have been long suffering here.

But, instead of starting our with heat, maybe you would like to provide some light for the question I posted to Bpbruno?

God bless
This is getting very tedious. if you folks got something new to add add it if not go and concider what has already been offered and go the God in Prayer. Ray

Hi: Scripture as to vows: numbers 30:1-17 , although it is somewhat vague can give something of the information upon which ca reflect as to Mary,s Perpetual vow of Virginity.I can only offer this up to you as a meditation but i feel in this quotation an answer to this perplection. Raymond King
Actually, it can’t. Mary did not make a vow. Her conception is a pure gift from God through the power of the Holy Spirit. She responds to God’s plan and says, “Yes”.

She accepts the gift - but makes no vow.

Hi, Frankk,

I am not sure what your point is here.

Mary was blessed by God as no other human before or after has been. These blessings were strictly from the mercy of God and not a result of anything Mary or her parents did. Mary freely chose to postively respond to God’s Plan and becomes an integral part of His Work of Redemption.

As to the vow of perpetual virginity. There is nothing speicific to this, but Luke starts off by telling us Mary is a virgn. By implication when Mary questions the angel, “How shall this be since I know not man?” is a pretty good indication that she was aware of at least the basic aspects of human reproduction.

Virginity after the birth of Christ is a Sacred Tradition and teaching of the Catholic Church from the 2nd Century on.

Hi tqualey,

Did you read the quote from raymond in my post? My point was to answer specifically raymond’s suggestion that Numbers 30: 1-17 may have some bearing on perpetual virginity.
This text refers to vows women make.

My response is that it is not relevant as Mary’s conception did not involve a vow in any form.

As you say Mary was blessed by God (with a gift by the power of the Holy Spirit. The gift being Jesus). This speaks to a Virgin Birth and has nothing to do with perpetual virginity.

As someone has mentioned elsewhere the Protoevangelium of James in the 2nd century first addresses the question [in writing] of perpetual virginity.

hello: why don;t you ask her directly? Say to Mary , Our Mother , Are you a vowed and perpetual Virgin of Our Lord and savior Jesus the Christ. See what she says in your heart.Ray
