How can I respond to these murderous Old Testament passages?

While I do not have the slightest doubt that Benedictus2 is quite capable of responding - i would be remiss if I did not point out that I have seen what appears to be a dramatic change in the type of of responses you are giving in your posts.

To the best of my knowledge, suffering is simply part of our human condition since the Fall. Some obviously suffer more then others - but, no one is exempt. And, this is something to consider when one thinks about Our Blessed Mother - who was totally free from sin from her first moment of life. She had her own personal prophecy in being told that a sword of sorrow (incredible suffering) would cut her heart. There is no doubt about Our Lord’s suffering from the day He was born until the day He died - Christ experienced the full human condition - and that means He experienced suffering.

No one gets used to suffering - just like no one gets used to pain. Each day of pain and suffering is a new day with new and old experiences in these areas. Those with chronic pain will probably experience a change in their personality in addition to all of the other changes they have experienced. Just look around - pain and suffering exert a real toll on the human body. But, this does not mean they will win. The human spirit can rise above a lot of things - and encouage others to move forward even though they themselves are not sure if they have the ability to put one foot in front of the other. Praying for God’s Grace is most important at this time.

I am not sure about what it is you are trying to say. I know Benedictus2 has expressed mutlitiple Pro-Life statements - and, I have no doubt she believes in what she has said. I can tell you that I am Pro-Life and have expressed my own statements in favor of protecting the innocent the growing life inside of the Mother. Don’t hold your breath waiting for God to order you to kill an unborn child - that will not happen. But, you may want to take a deep breath and re-read your post and see just what it is you want to accomplish on this thread.

Truth, just Truth. Nothing more nothing less. I guess it is because I am pro life, I find it hard to see all the mess in the old test. There is nothing anyone can do so, I will never except it but I will not mention it anymore. OK? Do what you want with the thread.

Nancy, no one here is going to do that extreme thing, we have been talking about hypothetical situations and how God works in an overall fashion, with examples of His Providential will. He guides all things. He is the one to do it. That is the best, no? What could be more comforting? Who is better? Would it be better to be no one at all at the helm?

I am extreme pro-life and I think most of the Catholic who post here, are too because it is the big part of Catholicism.

But we are pro-life because God is the one who decides when each person is to go to the afterlife. 🙂

I would add that the blameless ones who experienced what seemed unjust and made victims of their innocent souls, would soon be facing a God who was nailed to a cross, a God that wouldn’t put them through anything He wouldn’t go through Himself for their sake.

The suffering of innocents we can never ever grasp here on earth. God has allowed it. He and He alone knows why. And Him being God knows it is for a good reason. If you go a few posts back, I told a story about my little niece having to undergo operation. Please read that one as it sort of explains how our finite minds can never truly understand what is Eternal.

Think back to Abraham and Isaac. Do you think that it is unjust of God to ask Abrahm to sacrifice his only son? A son he waited for for many years? And yet what did Abraham do, he proceeded to do just that. Without question. Because He knows and trusts in God. He does not trust in his own ability to understand why God is asking this of him. He simply trusted God.

And that is what is asked of us. When we see the suffering of innocents, what we need to do is to trust in God. This universe, you and me are His creation. A masterpiece born of His great Love. How great that Love is we will never know while we are here on earth. And in the same manner, we will never truly know that all these are part of the grand plan. A tiny aspect of God’s grand plan of salvation.

All we need to be is to be humble. To accept that we really do not know why. God does not have to explain anything to us. All we need to do is trust. He know’s what He is doing.

With what the Bible has revealed however, God will not ask anyone to kill an unborn child in this day and age. Anyone who thinks that God is asking him to do that is hallucinating.
