How can I speed up the process of my girlfriends’ annulment? Can I take the letter of my girlfriend to the parish and then my priest can simply read and evaluate if there was marriage or not, instead of going the long way. It’s not even clear if she was married or not. Can someone simply read and say, OK this marriage is invalid. Or do you have to go through the marriage tribunal and wait a long, long, long time. uch:

If you want to date your girlfriend, she will have to get an annulment first no matter what. Annulments are a serious matter as annulments declare no sacrament took place between a couple. As of right now, you will have to presume your girlfriend is married and you should break up with her until she gets her marriage declared invalid.

The above statements seem harsh but they are true. You are dating a presumed married person. You are asking to have the annulment process sped up, what if the church declares your girlfriends marriage to be valid, You are now in a very difficult delemna if that happens.

you can do nothing whatever, this is not about you. The lady has to take the initiative and visit her priest. Unless and until she does this, begins the annulment process and the Church establishes that no valid marriage existed, she is a married woman, she is not free to date or become romantically involved with another man. She is therefore your friend, not your girlfriend.

If there was an appearance of a wedding, then an official annulment is needed. A priest (or more likely, a tribunal member) can read the letter to determine that there wasn’t even an appearance of a wedding, without requiring an official annulment. For example, if someone was in a play or movie where the script called for their character to get married, and it turned out that the person playing the priest was actually a priest, there is still no need for an official annulment.

Your girlfriend is meeting with her Tribunal Advocate? If not, she should be. You can do nothing but pray and keep your emotional distance. Treat her as your married sister or cousin for now.

This. She needs to start and follow through with the process. If she is not Catholic, or not does not have a home parish, you can introduce her to your priest, but you can’t do the process for her.

Certainly pray. But don’t start plans for your own wedding unless and until her first marriage is annulled and she is free to date or become romantically involved.

I have only seen a handful of unlimited-edit forums. Most forums that I frequent have a limit of anywhere from two to thirty minutes. The two-minute one really stinks, so consider yourself lucky here.
