How can i strengthen my faith

when i ive in a country where not alot of people speak english and i dont think they have confession.( i am catholic.)
i need to go to confession before i feel like i am making any change religiously in my life,…is ther any other way to confess other than in a church or can i do it by myself and speaking with god…
i live in germany now and i want to start going to church and living the way of he lord…but i need help. This is a total diffrent direction i am oing in my life that i was going…and i think i need as much help and advice as i can get!!!:o
 
If you live in Germany there are Catholic churches everywhere, so you should have no difficulty finding a priest for Mass and Confession. Most large cities and pilgrimage shrines, which are also all over Germany, have priests who can hear confession in any language. Family members who have recently visited Germany report that they found English spoken everywhere.
 
If you are unable to find an English speaking Confessional anywhere at all, rest in Peace that The Lord knows that you have done all that you can to get to Confession, but are unable, and His Mercy is with you…I hope, however, that you will be able to find a priest who speaks English. An alternative that does occur to me is to ring the Diocesan Offices of The Catholic Church and explain the situation - I am sure someone would speak English and be able to assist…Will keep you in prayer…Barb
 
if you can’t find a priest who understands English you can still confess and receive absolution from a priest, even in a foreign language, and the sacrament is still valid. there are no excuses for not frequenting Mass and confession in a country full of Catholic churches, even when you don’t understand the language. It is a guarantee that if you stay away from Mass and confession because of the (irrelevant) language issue, you will not grow spiritually, you will not overcome temptations, and you will grow further away from Christ.
 
I never realized that one could confess in a language that the priest could not understand…live and learn! Thanks Puzzleannie.
I came back to this thread to point out that if you are unable despite all efforts to make a Confession, then God’s Mercy is with you; however, you are obliged the next time you are able to attend a Confessional to confess all mortal sins you may not have confessed.
Certainly there is no reason at all to stay away from Mass simply because one cannot understand the language.

im not stating that i am not going to church or that i am using the language barrier as an excuse…however i live in a small community and the biggest city is about 1 hour and a half from me…i dont mind attending church in a diffrent language, i just wanted to know about my confession…i would like to understand what the priest is saying i should do and the reasons he gives me.
I understand i wrote i would like to start going to church, but that was meant for my confessions.👍

Hi again Lauraella:) …I was not at all in doubt of your integrity - that came across in your opening post. I will try to research whether one can attend a Confessional where the priest and penitent cannot understand the language each uses as I have never heard of this before. I must admit I would find it near impossible to confess in such a situation.
Re confession, I am quite sure that if you phone your diocesan offices someone there will be able to speak English and advise you re an English Confession. I am Australian but from what I hear English is used a lot in Europe and I would be very surprised if you were totally unable to make a confession in English.
However, if you exhaust all avenues and just cannot find a priest who speaks English, rest assured in Peace that God’s Mercy is with you - He is our Loving Father and not a hard taskmaster with a list of rules He keeps consulting.👍
