How can I use this word?

I just learned a new word! Retcon. How did I not know this?
It means “retroactive continuity,” and is defined as Adding information to the back story of a fictional character or world, without invalidating that which had gone before. Invented for comic books. Like deciding in Spiderman 3 that Sandman actually killed Peter Parker’s uncle in Spiderman 1.
So does it have to be restricted to comics, TV shows, etc? Or can I say God retconned my life when I found out I had been baptised a Catholic but no one ever told me? Because it seems like that is something God does quite a lot of, and of course he’s the most creative artist there is.

We have to retcon our fiction because we can’t exist at any point in time we want to.

That isn’t a problem for God, who is not restricted to observing things at one point in time, which means He can be all-knowing, and freewill can still exist.

I’m not entirely certain this is a serious question you’re asking, but in the event that it is the answer would be “No”.

Retconning is the addition, subtraction, or alteration of events within the canonical history of a fictional character. Some comic book characters have been around for the better part of 70 years and their stories have been developed and written by several different writers. So the elements of their story are often streamlined to preserve the good ideas that are developed over time and to be able to ignore the storylines that we’d rather forget.

The situation with your baptism is not retconning. It happened. You were baptized Catholic. All that changed was your awareness of this event.

I would just like to add that the word retcon isn’t necessarily a polite word. I’ve used it in a derogatory fashion more than once when criticizing the inconsistency of some plots.
