How can Jesus be considered a true man?

The fact that Jesus didn’t have a biological father means that he was not human in the sense that we are human. All true human beings have a biological mother and a biological father. How exactly does the Church define “true man”? Does “true” mean “normal” or does it just mean subject in his person to a truly mortal experience? Biologically speaking, and I think we can also assume genetically, Jesus was not a true man, he was not a normal man. Am I correct in distinguishing between “true” and “normal”?

Dear Tormented,

Since God designed the human race in the first place, He can certainly enter it as a true human being any which way He chooses. He does not have to live up to any standards we impose on Him. It’s the other way around. We have to live up to the standards He imposes. Jesus is fully a man. That He does not have a human father does not make Him any less human. HE—not you or I–determines what is human.
