How can Mary hear prayers

That omits a lot of what is necessary, e.g. being a part of the Mystical Body of Christ, the Holy Roman Catholic Church.
 
oudave - i appreciate your concern, but i can assure you that none of us catholics worship mary as God. that’s idolatry.

recognizing mary’s role in bringing salvation to us is not idolatry. being grateful for what she did, and does, in bringing salvation to us is not idolatry.

the issue boils down to the authority of the church vs sola scriptura. if you accept the authority of the church (which the Bible teaches), then you accept the role of mary’s intercession and her role in the salvation of the world. if you believe in sola scriptura (which the Bible does NOT teach), then you do not accept mary’s role.

but i can assure you as a convert, with a degree in baptist theology, as a former licensed baptist minister, that what we do is not idolatrous. we venerate mary. we ask for her intercession. we love her. we do not worship her, we do not make her our God.

rest assured.

Since, as you accurately say, God is om(name removed by moderator)otent, He then has no problem allowing the Saints to both hear and assist in the intercession for the faithful here on earth. If God does not want assistance from His creatures, then just why did He create the angels and why then does he give them tasks to perform as opposed to doing it all Himself? (You’ll have no answer for this that will make any kind of sense at all…)

As for your uninformed attack on the Blessed Virgin as intercessor for the faithful. I suggest you follow out this simple logic that is quite scriptural:

Jesus is the Christ…the Messiah…the King of Israel and the King of Kings- correct? (Of course!) As King of Israel and King of Kings he is from the line of King David-correct? (Duh-right?) Mary is His mother-Right? (Historical & Biblical FACT, so another Duh, right?). Do you know who the queens were in Israel? Wasn’t the king’s wife (wives?). See 1st Kings for the Biblical basis for all this. It was the king’s mother…YEP. Was called the “Giberah” which means “Queen Mother” and she has a special position of intercession for the “anawim” (the poor) with the king and since the Blessed Virgin fits all these criteria there is a clear Biblical precedent for her intercession for us here on earth.

Also I suggest that you do some very serious checking of history and note that even the very early Christians (as in the Catacombs) asked for prayers for them both for the dead and by those already gone to their reward. I suggest that you be very sure that you find a real valid scholar’s work and NOT just some preacher who got out of some Bible college and claims to know what he’s talking about. This kind of misinformation is most prevelent because of just such pseudo scholars. :rolleyes:

Mary has only been “grossly misrepresented and changed” by those individuals who choose to follow the new doctrines that didn’t come into being until 487 years ago. New doctrines that have been heaped to the people who have itching ears… :rolleyes:

From Jesus’ words in John 19:26-27, it is clear He intended that Mary should have a pre-eminent place of devotion in each Christian’s life:

26When Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing near, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” 27Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.

So, do you have a personal relationship with Mary? Have you accepted Mary as your spiritual mother? Have you taken her into your home? If not, you are missing out on one of Jesus’ most important gifts to his disciples.

Just as Jesus is mankind’s New Adam (1 Cor 15:45-46), early Christian writers, such as St. Justin Martyr (A.D. 155) and St. Irenaeus of Lyon (A.D. 189), were quick to recognize Mary as nothing less than mankind’s New Eve:

Irenaeus of Lyon, Against Heresies, Book III, Chapter XXII, Paragraph 4.
