How can people be fully content and happy without God?

…such is the claim made by those who have reached “nirvana”. They come to this state through meditation and self-realization, not by a relationship with a personal God they say.

Is that possible, or is there more to being “fully content and happy”?

I don’t know the answer. All I know is that many people are not happy even with G-d.
 
God is always there for the believers and unbelievers. He is kind to the good and evil that’s straight out of the New Testament.

I don’t think any of us really know the answer. From my experience, I would say that my unhappiness was at it’s highest not only when I was “without” God in my life, but when I thought He was, yet I was resisting His will at every turn.
 
This is such a wonderful question. As a “devout” Catholic, I wonder how people outside of my faith live. Are they as anxious about death as I am? How do they forgive themselves and others when they transgress or others transgress against them? All things good come from God anyways. I do not think you can disconnect joy and goodness from God.
 
Nirvana comes from Buddhism, Buddhist do believe in God(s).
 
The reason I ask this question is because it is a very common understanding in our faith that one can’t be truly happy if they don’t have God/Christ in their life.

…but some people claim they are, without having God/Christ.
 
Finding happiness from God makes you strong as it makes you abandon bodily passions, consideration for human respect and the love of the self. Seeking happiness from the world tends to make you weak. Happiness from food makes you a glutton, happiness from sex makes you an animal, and happiness from drugs makes you an addict. Happiness from receiving the Holy Eucharist will transform us to the likeness of Jesus, as St. Peter Julian Eymard says.

When your happiness relies on created things rather than God, it can be taken away from you. If your happiness relies on hearing music and you become deaf, you will be sad. If your happiness relies on watching television and you become blind, you will be sad. If your happiness relies on having friends and they abandon you, you will be sad. It is so cost-effective to be happy simply from thinking of God and a silent moment of prayer. Nobody can stop you from praying and being happy by doing it. The saints did it all the time using prayers like the Jesus Prayer for example.

There is no limit how much you have to hear, see and taste to make yourself happy, as more and more will be needed. With happiness from God you will have peace simply from the thought that God loves you. Then you can say with Saint Augustine: “Our heart is restless until it finds its rest in thee.”

I guess the best answer I can give is that happiness comes from within. At a certain point in life you realize that happiness is in how you interpret and react to life.

Sure, various people, things, and activities contribute to happiness but it is bigger and more internal then that. I’m probably doing a poor job explaining it, but that’s because one person’s key to happiness might differ from another’s.
 
Most of the answers to this questions are “I don’t know”, and “They are unhappy even with God”

So does this mean “One can’t truly be happy with God” is not true?

The quoted sentiment seems to be a strong principle our Christian religion believes in.
