I recently read a newspaper article about my archdiocese that talked about the fact that there were a good number (27 I think) of priests in the diocese who drafted a letter to the bishop stating that his involvement in a statewide ban on gay marraige was a scandal. these priests all believe that gay marraige should be allowed and have preached to their congregations about how banning gay marraige would be discrimination.
My question is, how are these priests still priests? They are obviously speaking against church teachings. Does the bishop have authority to relieve them from the priesthood?
