The death was the result of an automobile accident eight weeks ago. He is having trouble in school, his grades are steadily dropping, and he is exhibiting disruptive behavior. He now lives with his father, who was divorced from his mom six years ago. His 14-month-old sister remained with her father. Both men live within three miles of each other and have remained in contact for the children. Please give any information you deem helpful so that we can all work together to help him through this painful and difficult time.

Exactly how are you related to the child and his family? A family member? A friend? I ask because what you can do depends on whether the family would welcome your (name removed by moderator)ut into their personal tragedy.

Assuming you are a family member or friend whose involvement in the situation would be welcomed, I recommend that you suggest to the boy’s father that he contact the Pastoral Solutions Institute, a Catholic counseling apostolate, for assistance in helping his son.

Our prayers are with this family. God bless.
