How can we justify God commanding the killing of people in the Old Testament?

How can God’s commanding of the killing of people in the Old Testament (1 Samuel 15) as well as God Himself killing people (like the first borns in Exodus) be justified?

I’ve been struggling with this.

Hi,

It is not for us to justify what God does or does not do. We are merely His creatures. He is not just a bigger version of us. He is God. Now since He has given life to His creatures, He has the right to take it whenever and however He chooses. It’s not a sin for Him. Everything He does is out of love. If it looks otherwise to us, it is because we are unable to see the whole picture as He does.

Certainly, His own death on Calvary shows us how truly loving His is.
