There are many ways that people commonly suggest you can do to grow in your relationship with God: read the bible, draw, listen to religious music, pray, listen for God, and so on. But in all of those things I feel as though I’m missing something. What do people find in those actions? How can you get to know God and grow in your relationship with him?

Hi, J!

I think what you miss (as many others do) is the Priest’s closing salutation. We are to go into the world as ambassadors of Christ… we must Live the Gospel (Love God above all and neighbor as self).

We draw near to God through everything you’ve mentioned; but we manifest our Fellowship through Service and Love. If we fail to incorporate these in our Faith-Life we fall short of pleasing God and being Fulfilled.

From personal experience, I find reading the Bible for at least 30 minutes every day as increased my faith. Before I switched out my late night YouTube habit for the Bible, I had a very careless additude towards my faith. I was sinning left and right and I thought “oh I can just confess that…” Now I read the Bible during that time and throughout the day. I feel I have more time in the day, I feel I can resist sin better, and I keep finding myself going on long sprees of praising God in my head. After all, I couldn’t have done this without God. Without God, I’d still be watching sinful videos and searching for pointless images online.

Hi, Melodeonist!

It is what Scriptures Teach: ‘be doers of the Word and not just hearers.’

Sadly, we (Catholics and other Christians) have become a fellowship of ‘don’t worry, sin happy.’

Hollowood’s spirituality has contribute greatly as the incessant movies and programs that teach us to ‘do you’ and leave the responsibility and obligations to others.

…so blanket “confession” trumps self-control!
