Also,I fear Gods will.Like what if his will makes me totally unhappy but you have to do it anyway because he’s God.
To address your second point, God and only God understands you fully and completely. He knows every single one of your ways, your desires, your dreams (Psalm 139:3). He knows the number of hairs on your head (Matthew 10:30) and he knitted you lovingly together in your mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13). His loving thoughts about you are as countless as grains of sand on the seashore! (Psalm 139:17-18)
What I’m trying to say to you is that God knows you better than any other human being will ever know you, better than even you know yourself, because God created you. Thus, He knows exactly what will make you happy, He knows exactly what will make you feel fulfilled, peaceful and joyful. His Will for you will be the most beautiful path you could follow, so get excited about what God made you for, and look forward to the wonderful things He plans for you to do! I am not saying there will never be any pain or suffering - there will be. Even Jesus suffered terribly in this world, so why would be any different from the Son of God? But God’s Plan for us could never make us unhappy, because if we follow His Will exactly, it will lead us to Heaven - eternal peace and everlasting joy!
Here is another verse for you: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11:

Being still and knowing that God Is, has nothing to do with the type of centering prayer the Church objects to. Pretty much every Catholic retreat has times for the participants to be quiet and still and be in the presence of God, listening for his voice. The Church objects to prayer techniques that focus too much on self, not God. Also, even if we are talking about contemplative prayer, certain contemplative prayer techniques have been practiced and advocated by great saints like St. Teresa of Avila.

I don’t quite understand why your responses in this thread seem to be finding a reason to reject everything suggested by people to help you maybe get to know God better.

I guess my point is how do you make yourself love (agree to his ways) God if you have no motivating factor like feeling him/knowing him?
Well, I have a very strong motivating factor: I do feel Him in my life every day. I’ll admit there have been times when I’ve been tempted to doubt the Catholic Faith. There’s nothing wrong with that as long as we fight against the temptation. Even the saints were tempted. However, as many times as I’ve doubted the truth behind Catholicism, I’ve never found a reason to doubt God’s existence. I see and feel His love and presence everywhere I go. You simply have to be willing to see it. I suggest praying that God will reveal Himself to you, as others on this thread have suggested. Just pray and then let your heart and mind be open to what He shows you.
And what is meant when people say they see God everywhere?
For me, it’s a multiple-layered thing. First, I’m a science geek so I see His amazing handiwork every time I study anything to do with science. Everything from the ecosystem to how our DNA and RNA works shows His amazing designs. Second, I see His love every time I see people coming together after a storm to help their neighbors. Every time I hear about another person almost dying and then somehow surviving in what medical professionals consider “impossible” circumstances. Every time I almost make a horrible mistake but feel His wisdom guiding me back to safe territory. Lastly, in my own personal life, I feel His love for me every time I let myself acknowledge it. I had some very bad circumstances surrounding my childhood and it’s left me constantly battling depression, anxiety, and PTSD. I am not exaggerating when I say that I would not be alive today if not for God’s grace. I almost ended my life several years ago, but God intervened and helped show me why life was still worth living. He is there comforting me every time I wake up from a nightmare. He is there when I feel lost and scared and just need someone to lean on.

Sometimes it’s easy to forget, among all the rules and history lessons, but the Catholic Faith at its core is just that: FAITH. It requires some willingness to let go of certainty and allow ourselves to believe. And, trust me, He always rewards our faith and trust.

I will be praying very hard for you. 🙏

Exactly! Wonderful description.

My mom loves flowers. She loves the complexity and variation and it always gets her talking about how God is this wonderful artist—and if he put so much care into that little violet growing in the crack in the drive way that no one will ever see and will likely just get run over by the car…but then she’ll just be overjoyed because SHE saw it, and it made her happy, and HE knew that it would, and so He arranged all of the circumstances that led to that seed germinating right there and growing exactly as it did just to make her smile.

Don’t know why, but I always see God in the weather. From a giant raging storm in all it’s power to a tiny breeze and the way it dances across a field and plays with all the little individual blades of grass, or the sun when it warms your face and the wind when it takes your breath away. He knows you are there. He has always known you would be right there. And that breeze tickles your face and cools you off… That’s where I see God.

I had a young math major come to our RCIA class once. When it was his turn to explain why he was there, he was so excited and animated and went on about irrational numbers and some theory and this other thing and smart stuff and equations and some guy’s theories and that there HAS to be God and God “speaks his language.”

No idea what he was talking about, but his animated joy and excitement and absolute wonder were the same feeling I get in the weather, generated by a loving and personal God who designed us and so knows how to speak to our hearts.

I could keep going. My sister is a veterinary pathologist. Cellular respiration blew her mind. It was a symphony to her.

My Dad loved people. All their complicated stories. “Well, isn’t that something.”

My oldest son can’t walk past a crucifix without pausing and reflecting. He remembers all of his favorite ones and where they are.

My middle son loves Jesus as the Good Shepherd. He has a little statue and a prayer card and a framed picture that he keeps by his bed. He feels so safe knowing if he is hurt or needs help Jesus will not rest til he is carried to safety.

My daughter in music.

My little sister in miracles—she is a cardiologist.

God speaks to you in your language. When you know and begin to appreciate who He made you to be, and you ask Him to help you, you become more readily able to see Him. Everywhere.

No it’s not so much that I am rejecting what anyone is saying,it’s more rather that I already come into it with all these pre-existing “issues” around Christianity and religion.

I fully accept that my reasoning about these things may be wrong or confused, but I would rather be honest/come from honesty.

I just find it hard to get my head around many concepts.

I accept and appreciate what everyone has suggested.
It might come across as rejection but it’s not that-it’s more just me trying to understand things.

Don’t stop trying to understand. There is more than this life. Whether you “know it, like it, or believe it.” (Father Michael Schmitz’s phrase for objective truth—he is great. He has some podcasts—always worth it. Very relatable.)

God wants you to have the fullness of life.

My Friend you have asked many PROFOUND questions; worthy of a full reply.

Because space is so limited HERE on CAF, look for a private message from me.

Don’t give up on GOD, He won’t give up on YOU

Blessings,

Patrick [PJM] here on CAF

There is more than one type of “centering” prayer.

If you place yourself in the presence of our loving God and love Him with your will, being aware that He is the Creator, and you are His creature that He loves infinitely that is much different on “centering” on nothing at all.

The latter would be new age meditation.

Feelings, I believe, are movements of the soul. God created the soul, so how could you not feel God?

Your own existence is not much more than self consciousness/awareness limited by your corpus (body). What you see is limited to the ability of your eye and its related neurons, what you smell is limited to the ability of your nose, etc…

Love is not a feeling. God is love.

I believe all that the Church teaches with regard to faith and morals. There is a reason for the rules. The Lord makes it possible to obey the rules by giving us Himself in the Eucharist and in the other sacraments.

Evil entered the world due to disobedience. First it was the fall of the angels, then the fall of mankind. Jesus is the remedy.

It is the will that counts, not feelings. (consolations). God uses the good feelings to attract us, but He desires that we love and obey Him without the feelings. We get to understand Him better and grow spiritually that way.

I truly believe it is easier to understand God’s love for us as individuals if we meditate on the Stations of the Cross, and the mysteries of the Rosary. God answers prayer!

Seek and you will find! He loves you infinitely.

Peace,

Dorothy

I guess what I’m trying to explain, rather poorly,is that I don’t know how to love (whether emotionally or through will) a God that I can’t feel or conceptualise.
This is why Jesus is so important. Start with him. Read the Gospels. Talk with jesus in your heart.
