The fact of the matter is that holy water, used with faith, repels demons. I guess this is because of the twofold faith, the faith of the priest who blessed it, and the faith of the person using it to request a blessing from God. These two blessings incur God’s divine presence in some mystical way which repels evil spirits or at least puts them in tremendous pain.
But yet when I’m using it, even for this reason, I feel superstituous. I try to recall to mind the facts about why they’re repelled but this doesn’t seem to calm my nerves about being superstitious about it. I especially use it when I’m feeling temptations, which is the ordinary activity of demons. And I use it for the sake of calling on God’s protection. But yet I still feel superstitious. Am I doing something wrong? Or is my theology somehow incorrect and am I actually being superstitious?
