How chaste were we really?

Yes they can be mortal sins if they are acted upon. Sometimes thinking about them is acting upon them and therefore mortal. Other times having the thought and immediately pushing it from your mind using a Hail Mary or other prayer is venial because you did not entertain it yet having the initial thought was natural - that is why it is original sin. This is just my take on the difference - I can be wrong - if someone has a better take on it - please throw it out.

Correction: it’s concupiscience. Baptised persons do not have Original Sin. 🙂

Thank you for the correction - I think my Protestant past is showing a bit. I was raised both and sometimes the terms get crossed even though I chose Catholicism. My mother was Protestant my father was Catholic. They decided instead of fighting over me they would raise me both and let me choose. It didn’t work so well when I was younger but it worked out well now because now I believe in the Church I am in because I chose to be in it. 🤷
