How come those in the Church that attend SSPX liturgies receive less charity than say SSA couples, pro choice atheists, or anti-Catholic protestants f

I’m trying to figure out why people hold the SSPX in contempt over heretics and prochoice atheists.

Not sure who these “people” are you’re referring to. I guarantee you that most people I know, including most Catholics, don’t even know who/ what the SSPX is, much less have an opinion on them.

I do understand where the OP is coming from. Our Holy Father has repeatedly condemned “rigid” Catholics, with an eye on certain strands of traditionalists, on multiple occasions, but has only called for mercy, accompaniment and understanding when it comes to the people who fall into the other categories referenced by the OP. I’m not sure I understand it either. Its not just the current Holy Father either. I felt that even St. John Paul II and Benedict, despite how much I admire both of them, would come down with an iron fist on ultra-traditionalists but show nearly infinite patience when dealing with, say, ultra-progressives. Look at the treatment of the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate (disciplined for being “ultra-traditionalist”, for lack of a better term) versus the treatment of the US Leadership Conference of Women Religious (investigated for heterodox theology and practices on the 'progressive" side of the spectrum).
Are there factors here that we’re missing, that we’re not privy to? I am sure that is the case. I am not judging the Pope / Holy See. I just don’t understand it.

I don’t hold anyone in contempt. But I’ve been around SSPX folks who were badmouthing Pope Benedict. And I was not a happy camper.

Note: Excuse me, it wasn’t Pope Benedict, it was St. Pope JPII

Friend, you OPQ [Question] is HIGHLY subjective and in my personal view unsupportable

Pray very much
Patrick

I don’t know that my experience is the same as yours. I don’t think that schismatic groups like the SSPX are treated any differently than gay people, atheists, pro abortion, etc

I do think that some traditionalists tend to be very vocal and critical of just about any one who disagrees with them. Now most of this perception is based off of the traditonist media … lifesite news, the remnant, Church militant, lepanto Institute etc. They are flame throwers… they censer any critical comments from their websites and chat boards and are generally pretty grumpy…and tend to be the ones claiming that everyone and thing after VII is corrupt and product of the heresy of modernism.

I’m certain that these people don’t represent the majority of pre-Vatican II Catholics, but they are very loud… and there hasn’t been enough done to distance themselves from those extremist outlets.

for the same reason that the jews were held to a higher standard than the gentiles

Maybe it is because of what the SSPX says about things they consider holy.

SSPX is known primarily for rejecting the Second Vatican Council. Whether fairly or unfairly, this makes them seem like schismatics and thus like a more dangerous threat to the Church than those already outside of it.

A loaded question on your part. First I must ask, what do you mean by receiving less charity? Is it saying the Mass has doubtful validity? Saying that the Mass doesn’t fulfill your Sunday obligation? Is it saying that the Mass is evil?

Because that’s literally what the SSPX says about the Ordinary Form. It’s right on their USA website.
I’m trying to figure out why people hold the SSPX in contempt over heretics and prochoice atheists.
This goes both ways. I could just as easily ask you why SSPX supporters (and some sympathizers) hold people who attend the Ordinary Form in more contempt than they do:
  • Priests celebrating illicit Masses.
  • Priests presiding over invalid Marriages.
  • Bishops and delegated priests administrating invalid Confirmations.
  • Before the Year of Mercy, priests administrating invalid Confessions.
  • Illicit priestly ordinations.
  • Men knowing as soon as they get ordained, they’re going to be suspended and not have faculties.
  • People outright rejecting a Council.
  • People openly questioning the authority of the Pope.
  • People calling the Ordinary Form evil.
By no means I am justifying any form on uncharitable words or actions. However based on what I listed above, you can understand why a small, small minority of people who attend the OF would be upset with the Society.

Frankly, as someone else mentioned, the majority of people who attend the OF probably never heard of the SSPX.

Many heretics and prochoice advocates are invincibly ignorant of their sin. Rather few SSPX supporters could actually be ignorant of the gravity of schism.

To answer the rather loaded question here, I would say the answer would have to be narrowed down to one person, or at least one mind-set. Also, a definition of receiving charity is needed.

One answer came from someone above who quoted the Pope about rigid people. If from that you took it to mean he has less charity toward the SSPX, then you be falling into the common trap of forming an opinion based on media frequency, like saying everyone is always getting murdered because you can read about a murder on the news daily. There is a bias in how news is reported, as an item must be newsworthy, and how it is read, as we choose what outlets interest us.

There may be some that have formed an opinion based on personal interactions with individuals. that too can skew perspective.

And this is exactly why the Vatican despite its good-will outreach is on its heels on many of these issues.

We had better start raising the bar considering our Church has Knowledge of the Truth.

True. The Holy Father has done some very generous things for the faithful involved with the SSPX… first and foremost granting SSPX priests faculties to validly absolve sin.

We know that because, hey, we follow the Pope. But I bet those who know about the “rigid people” statement out-number those that know this ten to one.

There is a quirk of human nature that there is more infighting among groups, the closer those groups are to each other.
For instance, there is more hostility between old money and nouveau riche, than either group to the homeless.
People fight with their children more than their grandchildren.
There is a sense of “so near and yet so far” frustration. It seems like it should take so little to bring SSPX back into the fold…
But with the persons living in obvious scandal and separation, I think maybe the popes have more of a sense of buckling in for a long and bumpy ride, and knowing it will take a great deal of grace and time for reconciliation to occur…

I visit the Remnant site daily and the only comments they censer are those suggesting sedevacantism or calling PF an/the anti-pope.

I’m afraid that is not true. They routinely censor comments that generally support Pope Francis.

I have multiple real examples if you like to see them mail me privately.
