I recently found out that I can donate blood. I turn out to be O-, and CMV negitive (some virus I’ve not had yet allows my blood to be given to newborns, and others in need, that are in frail general health, or have compromised immune systems). God willing, I will soon be 59.
My understanding is that red, and white blood cells can be cultured in a lab; kind of like great grandmothers’ starter bread dough. Great grandma was too thrifty to buy yeast for each loaf, you understand, and she did the she could with what was on hand. Now, I don’t mind a bit in the world going whereever the bus shows up here to harvest blood. I look forward to going there in early March, especially since last Friday. I got a call, out of the blue from the blood institute informing me that my last donation ( they let me give double on red blood cells) went to someone at St. Francis Hospital, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I told the caller that this is where my daughter was born.
Would it not be prudent to go ahead and culture some of this blood, in case I come down with CMv someday soon?
