How common is the Dominican rite done among Dominican friars? Is it done regularly and are most friars taught the rite or just a select few? I’m asking because I’m discerning the priesthood and am attracted to the extraordinary form of the mass.

Lay Dominican here. I’m not sure, though I think it’s seeing a steady rise in interest. I think it’s more common though in the Eastern and Western provinces. Still, even if it isn’t common, you could help it be more common, should you be called to be a Dominican.

In Portland, OR, the Dominican parish has a Dominican rite Mass every day of the week.

The priest (a Dominican) at a local Catholic university used to offer it every week (he is a fairly newly ordained priest)! It truly is a beautiful rite 😊 You may also want to consider the Benedictine monks in Oklahoma at Clearwater Creek Monastery–what a beautiful monastery! God bless you during your discernment–we need more priests who want to offer the Extraordinary Form of the Mass!
