How could Luther state that God denies the burning of heretics when hell is the eternal fire and Purgatory is the temporal fire?

But where did you find this? James Akin? With all due respect, he’s not a scholar of the period.

Can you point me to any reputable historical source saying that this is likely to have been what Pope Leo meant?

Edwin
The point is not what Pope Leo meant. What Pope Leo felt or did not feel at that time is not the point at all.

The Point is it was never a teaching or belief of the RCC. That is what my point is. And I showed proof in Code of Cannon Law.

The last thread is that the RCC changed its teaching and that back when we believed that Heretics should and taught that they should be burned at the stakes. It was never a teaching of the RCC,

If you can show me proof that Popes personal opimion or thinking is a teaching of the RCC please do so, If not this topic should be closed.

SHould have been a long time ago, when no one could prove it was ever a teaching of the RCC.
